Sounds reasonable, of course you could select a rifle in a cheaper caliber or go for something scoped as irons at 300 can be challenging, speaking as a recently hasguns who isn’t a great shot. Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds like you want a bolt action in a larger caliber with irons that can hit a target at 309 yards, the Ruger American seems like it can meet those criteria as well as one could expect. If it’s your only HD gun keeping a loaded mag on hand isn’t the craziest thing in the world. Of course this depends heavily on where you live and how you store your guns and how the living space is laid out. I keep a loaded magazine for my PCC on a shelf in arms reach of my bed and my PCC in a drawer under my bed and can load it fairly quickly but I also sleep on the second floor and would see someone coming up my long driveway first, it’s also worth noting there is basically no crime where I live

Kinda same thing with all the "HK91 has too much recoil" stuff. People say the roller delayed blowbacks pushes hard with the HK91, meanwhile everyone say that the MP5 is the "most smooth shooting smg". And there's also all this "roller delayed blowback was made to be as cheap as possible" meanwhile there's so many people saying that HK abandoned the RDB scene because "it was too expensive to produce anymore" and that the "roller delayed blowback is a really complex action". What the fuck is that all about? I've never seen so many contradictions about a firearm.

depending on the type of paint, turpentine on a brush or paper towel could work. Otherwise you could use buffing compound and elbow grease

heres the thing 9mm spec ammo is pretty well standardized youve got 115 124 and 147 thats it. other calibers have more variation

Right now you can buy a kit from Palmetto State Armory for $260 that includes everything other than a lower receiver that you can build with minimal tools and knowledge into a functioning rifle. A lower costs about $40, you can find them a little cheaper even on Armslist sometimes.
