ballistically it's very similar to 10mm. I guess you could call 10mm intermediate, I prefer to think of it as the top end of auto-pistol loads.

With lighter stuff you're typically looking at an extra 700+ fps in 300 BLK's favor.

How easy is to convert an USC to an UMP45 with a parts kit without any prior gunsmithing experience?

Really easy.
1. Acquire USC and parts kit
2. Pay a professional $$$$ to do the UMP conversion for you
3. Flip the finished rifle on Armslist because the UMP is a sad gun that disappoints everyone who shoots it

Most folks will recommend Extar (basically just an AR 9 with cheap components, it's not bad though). The other option in that same price range is the Ruger PC9, cheapest will be hi-point which honestly is not a bad PCC.

Yeah I've read on brianenos forums about how people sometimes need replacement parts after a few thousand rounds for some of the Piston components. I'm also thinking of an MP5 clone but they just seem like a worse deal

If you already have a Px4/M9, otherwise you're looking at the cost of the Cx4 plus $$$ more for the pistol you'll inevitably want to get to accompany it.
