Funny quirk of Canadian law is that if the barrel is short from the factory, it's A-OK, but cutting down a barrel isn't.

Chopping it properly is more difficult than recrowning.
If the cut isn't as perpendicular to the bore as you can, then crowning it won't help.
If you want to chop a barrel down, I'd recommend using a lathe if at all possible.

Bought a new Mossberg Shockwave 12g with our tax return and was SO disappointed in Mossberg's delicate flat blue finish that I distressed the piss out of it! Now I don't worry about scratching it anymore.
Fit an old Mossberg 500 Police forend, a stock adapter, brace, a walnut A2 grip, and made a custom light for the mag cap.

Because I wanted to, and it's not welded on. Now, it's a 14" barrel weapon that I can quickly shoulder if the need arises, (or my left hand isn't working that day, which seems to be more and more often).
Plus, I'm pretty good with tools, so I can bolt the raptor grip back on in a couple minutes.
It shoots like a dream, and the soft rubber brace makes even hot slugs easy to take.
