It's honestly pretty difficult unless you are close. Triggers me every time.

The noise of a gunshot stems from the gas leaving the barrel and subsequently sounds more like a snap or the crack of a whip compared to an explosive chunk of powder igniting in the open producing a more traditional, sustained, thundering boom.

I've never heard a firework sounding like a boom, desu

I feel bad for you, user. Where i'm from, we launch fireworks out of a 50mm mortar tube.

Do you live around blacks?
Probably gunshots

Large fireworks have a report. Small fire crackers are very difficult to judge from pistol fire.

Gunshots - bang
Big Fireworks - boom
Firecrackers and such - snap crackle pop

Gunshots are sharper in sound.
However you can't tell the difference between fireworks and artillery.

fireworks mostly shoot up and dont break the sound barrier

you dont for a lot of fireworks and anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know shit.

> sounds more like a snap or the crack of a whip
yeah if you're on the receiving end of the barrel. othewise it doesn't sound like that.
different muzzle devices also generate different reports. nice try though, retard.

Sometimes, you just have to check, user.
>be on late shift
>trying to sleep during the day
>neighbors behind my house having a birthday party
>*BOOM*
>"AAAAAAHHH"
>*BOOM*
>"AAAAAAHHH"
>fuck, somebody's killing my neighbors
>look out bedroom window
>they were hitting a piƱata

If shit's going down close enough to involve you, might as well peek to see if you're in danger rather than assume you're fine because it was lower pitched than what you think a gunshot sounds like.

>look at sky
>no pretty lights
Gun shots

>look at sky
>pretty lights
fireworks

>buys fireworks for the 4th

If you were Jow Forums you would be buying 26.5mm flares, rocket flares, and parachute illumination flares, maybe a pack of mortars mixed in.

Firework:
>BOOM BOOM CRACK CRA-BOOM BOOM fizzle
Gunshot:
>CRACK CRACK
t.American

I dont, but i return fire anyway

This is the best thing to do.
Fuck fireworks outside of festive days. I have ptsd for God's sake.

If you're not a nogunz, you'll immediately be able to tell the difference.

>ptsd
Nice meme disorder welfare queen

THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN

You probably can't unless you have been exposed to a lot of both and maybe you will learn.

My neighbors used to get mad when i shot guns in my yard but as long as I did it on new years or 4th of july no one complained.

This, as a beaner (Northeast Mexico) I've heard both things for the last...10 years, it's pretty easy to tell the difference, also, most of the time gunshot aren't ''alone'' there's always follow up shots or it's an automatic weapon, and the cadence and rythm of it is very characteristic

Thank you for reminding me I really need to continue Sunless Sea. All these anons are right though, it pretty much comes by way of experience.

decay on handguns sounds a little different.
