hey Jow Forums, I was drawing a shotgun for the first time, it's supposed to be ironically tacticool and from a sci-fi setting yet look sorta contemporary. In my mind it's mag fed, with a pistol grip, with semi and full auto modes, folding stock, a rail on top and underneath the barrel, right now it has a red dot and flashlight for that extra tacticoolness, and some sort of ergonomic grip as well.
Can I make it more sci-fi? I already have it be made out of some composite alloy that absorbs recoil (maybe its heavy in a small volume?).

Buddy you basically drew a Saiga 12 with a triangle stock.
Give it translucent mags, make the gun a greyish with white/yellow markings, add vent holes in the sides of the handguard. Honestly a bullpup or something with a thumbhole pistol grip/stock would be a little more sci-fi looking, but yours is realistic at least as it is now.
Pic related, clear Saiga 12 mags. On a related note, does anyone know if you can modify Saiga mags to fit in a Vepr 12?
Alrighty. Make the grip some space age non-newtonian fluid that's liquid when left untouched, but hardens when gripped, so that it always perfectly takes the grip shape of whoever's holding it. And make the stock out of telescoping parts that retract inside the butt of the gun so it can be stored taking up less space. It'd work kinda like how the FLUX Brace works for glocks, but actually a stock and more effective 'cause it's made out of crazy, space age materials. fluxdefense.com/shop/flux-brace

Anyways, a railed handguard like this looks more "futuristic" in my opinion, plus the large rail across the top gives it a kind of Halo/spacey vibe. I wouldn't do a suppressor on it since it defeats the compact requirement you mentioned, but a muzzle brake would definitely add to the aesthetic you're going for, in my opinion. Just don't make it obnoxiously gigantic like the real world brakes for veprs and saigas.
I do not think a triangle stock is the way to go though. All I can think of is cold war, not space war. Something polymer and adjustable is the way to go. Still have it on a folding trunnion, have it shown in another pic folded up.
No worries lad, honestly props on you for having a concept in mind and then drawing an actual functional weapon that meets your requirements instead of something retarded that just looks cool

Also, may I offer an idea for another subject for your art.
I never understood how this would work, wouldn't the gun twist sideways in your grip if the grip is off to the side like that? You'd need the "smart gun"/chainsaw upper grip hand hold thingie to keep it straight, or another kinda foregrip that was offset on the other side.
It absorbs the recoil substantially before it hits your shoulder, and the grip and other components are somewhat free floated to avoid being beat to pieces by the extreme forces.

It's all mounted on springs strong enough to tank 20mm recoil on a human shoulder, i dont think there's much risk of it getting misaligned from some rough handling. See the Forgotten Weapons video on it, fucking thing has a truck suspension coiled in there.

That's funny, I was doing the same thing no more than a couple days ago. Based mine off of the UTS-15 which at least in my opinion looks great but apparently had some serious reliability issues when it was first released and is still touchy now if you don't run high brass through it.

Have the mags be like P-90 mags. Dual fed. Imagine the KSG but with detatchable P-90 mags where the tubes are. This lets you mix shell selection for what you want, which is the big benefit of a shotgun. So you could have one side filled with big tungsten sabots and another filled with electro-bolos or some shit. Point being that you need to take advantage of the shotgun's advantages and uniqueness.
Add a laser sight, a digital ammunition counter, a large muzzle brake, and maybe a small screen with an x-ray display or a motion tracker (think Aliens).
Now where can I find more of your art you bastard.

OP here, I just googled mag fed shotgun and pic related came up. I thinks it's really close to what I pictured in my mind, so I might as well go with that and just make the colors for it more spacey, and more digital gadgets too it like a sight that displays info like round count and type of shell in the chamber that can also have night vision, infrared, and thermal modes.

>Would this thing have a gas rod >gas rod Yes, though its called a piston/gas-tube. On the design you posted the piston is part of the bolt carrier (RED). When the gun is fired the projectile goes down the barrel (GREEN). At a certain point in the barrel is a hole/port that bleeds gas into the gas-tube (BLUE). That gas pushes against the piston+bolt-carrier (RED). The bolt-carrier moves backwards and unlocks the bolt (YELLOW) which then can move backwards, eject the empty shell, and load another one into the chamber of the barrel.

Where would the charging handle be as it's not pump action?

The gun in the pic already has a mag release and a fire selector, obviously. It would only need an auto setting in addition to the S/F settings. As for being ambidextrous there are guns like the Tavor that have left and right handed ejecting bolts and they simply have a plate in the receiver that you can swap if you need to, but I don't know of any shotguns that do that.

Its not physically impossible to design a gun like that, its just generally not too useful. Generally its is attached to the bolt carrier, sticking out the side of the receiver. If you design the charging handle to not reciprocate with the bolt then you can stick the handle in some other places (look at an AR-15 for example).

Something a lot of furry artists do when drawing guns is draw a relatively detailed and nice picture and then the gun itself is just a vaguely gun shaped potato. See it a lot when they try to add cars/vehicles to their pics too. Kalahari was nice back in the day because the guns he drew were usually very detailed, perhaps more so than his characters.
That was older furry art, younger artists have at least videogame level gun knowledge so they usually just draw over the top fantasy tacticool or their favorite gun from CS or RS6S or whatever.
If you want an artist that loves guns and military and does tons of accurate historical uniform porn, look up Hladilnik.
