Nah, it's been a law forever, basically it states if you're transporting a gun you have to basically do a direct transfer from point A to point B.
In practicality no one will give you shit for stopping for gas or the bathroom, it's mostly so you don't bring your gun to the college parking lot after shooting or something like that.

Of course, it's pretty much completely unenforceable like a hundred other Canadian gun laws because no one is gonna look through your car unless you've already committed a crime.

For non-Canadians it's probably worth mentioning this only applies to Restricted firearms (ie. pistols and certain scary looking long guns). Only real limit for Non-Restricted is they can't be loaded during transport. You could legally open carry most rifles or shotguns through downtown Toronto if you wanted. You'd get arrested and/or shot by the cops, but technically you wouldn't be breaking any law.
