>Bodycamera footage released by Appleton police in Wisconsin show the moments leading up to a fatal shooting of a firefighter in May. The Outagamie County District Attorney said two Appleton police officers were justified in their shooting of Ruben Houston last month. The announcement comes after a thorough investigation into the incident outside valley transit. The shooting also left a firefighter dead, a police officer injured, and an innocent bystander with gunshot wounds. According to investigators, Houston opened fire on first responders after they came to his aid when he was found unresponsive on a Lamers transit bus. Body cam footage from Sergeant Christopher Biese, on the bus, shows paramedics tending to Houston who was being treated for an opioid overdose by giving him two shots of Narcan. Houston was then able to walk himself off of the bus where police officers and paramedics tried to talk him into seeking additional medical help but he continued to refuse.

One of Houston's shots struck Officer Christensen and firefighter Mitch Llundgaard, who died from his injuries. Authorities believe Brittany Schowalter, who was used by Houston as a human shield was struck by the officer's gunfire.

the EMS guys seemed pretty young and depending on the state you work in you can be limited to what you're allowed to do. He was found in a bus seat so its not like they had much room to pat him down. Honestly the two cops questioning him did a pretty poor job, if you notice he had enough time to slowly telegraph his draw, rack the slide and shoot someone before either cop had their gun out. the fat cop just turns and runs.

Yeah, you can't do a full body search on someone if they're sitting down and you need to work quick to get them back. The cops could have detained them and searched them prior to transport (because Narcan isn't a cure, it buys time to get to a hospital) . When I saw the video I noticed he clearly reached for his waistband and stepped back. It was obvious what was happening and it's too bad neither cop rushed him before he could draw. If this teaches anything then I hope it's a reminder for responders to be cautious and try to see what they're dealing with in full beyond the immediate medical emergency.

Obviously some patients are regulars and you know they use a revolving door at rehab (if they even do there). Other times may be a person getting hit with someone they didn't expect because it was laced or someone poisoned them. You're not there to judge, you're there to stabilize and do a job.

Appleton Jow Forumsommando here. Can say that the community has responded quite a bit to help out his family which is cool. The area in a one mile radius of downtown is utter shit though. Scum fucks everywhere at that bus station and I wouldn't be caught dead there without at least a knife on me. It's a shame though since I have fond memories of biking to the library next to it with my family during the summers as a kid. I always pictured it as a safe town and for the most part it is, but there has been some nasty shit going on lately.
