Nobody quite knows. If you read literature from around 1910 (Howard's End is a good example), you find woven through it a queasy feeling that something bad was about to happen, but nobody knew exactly what. You'll find the same kind of thing before a lot of bad shot went down in history. People could feel something coming - they just didn't know what exactly it would be.

The Clinton-era AWB passed without much trouble because back then people didn't have that feeling. The Cold War had just ended, Waco and Ruby Ridge hadn't really sunk in, Oklahoma City hadn't happened, nor 9/11, nor Iraq or Afghanistan nor Gitmo. There was no alternative media to speak of other than Rush Limbaugh, who was just beginning to get popular. There was no Fox News, no Drudge Report, no Alex Jones, no Breitbart, no millions of people speaking up on Twitter or YouTube getting the word out, so all that anyone knew was what the New York Times and CBS/NBC/ABC wanted them to know. The Cold War had just ended, and everything was optimistic. People trusted the government a lot more, and the idea that something bad would happen seemed very far away.

Because of that, few people owned or wanted to own something like an AR-15 before 1994. Modern tactical culture was nonexistent outside of a few "militias" far in the hinterlands and a sprinkling of survivalists who, in the 90s, seemed stuck in the Cold War. Nobody was prepping for any kind of survival other than trying to figure out how to get out of the mosh pit at a Soundgarden concert without any broken bones.

But now things are different. People know something bad is coming. They just don't know what. Which is the reason why so many people have an AR-15 and a stack of MREs stashed in the closet.

I only have preps for the first four. No reason to go full NBC since the risk of that shit is extraordinary minimum in rural Texas. If one resides in the city then it’s not unwise to get a SCBA just in case someone decides to have fun with a shitload of chlorine.

Also, anhydrous ammonia and shit is pretty lethal. It just takes one asshole with a rig full of it to wipe out a small area before anyone knows what’s going down. It’s highly unlikely to happen but shit as I stated if you’re in a densely populated area then it’s not a bad idea to have at least a small rescue SCBA to get clear of the cloud.

Political violence realistically. I love out in the country so I don't have to worry about it but I have loved ones in very liberal and dark areas. I keep a full tank of non ethanol gas with stabilizer and rotate it before it goes back. Have a go bag and some of supplies. My plans for events is to either go in and pull them out of the city or stay in and make sure nobody torches or loots their place. Not going in for violence just making sure it doesn't reach them.

Go for a walk where you plan to set up base if SHTF, and find cammo that matches the wilderness
There are tons of different styles

Nighttime ops depend on how much of a sociopath you are
If you have nods; are you going to shoot an unknown person walking around in the dark?
You can avoid them, call out to them, or kill them and give away your location

Avoidance is key at nighttime, unless the person is a perceived threat. Ok so what if I'm in a slightly wooded area that also transitions into an urban environment?

Don’t overthink it, don’t obsess over just one type of potential happening. Any shtf scenario you can imagine is going to affect your ability to access or retain only 6 things;
Food
Water
Shelter
Security
Medical care
Comms

If you plan, train, and stockpile according to that list, you’ve got everything imaginable covered. You also want to start collecting skills. Day to day stuff, not the Tier Zero operator stuff that’s cool and groovy. Knowing how to fix a car will be a lot more useful than knowing how to call in a 9 line. Learn how to cook, you may just prevent your own suicide by doing so. Know your way around a toolbox. Be familiar with the fundamentals of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, automotive, and concrete work. It doesn’t have to be pro grade, just workable. Plant a vegetable garden. It gives you practice and an idea of what kind of work is involved. Think about what it would take to scale it up to subsistence farm levels.

Start accumulating reference materials. Hardcopy, not pdfs. Cookbooks, repair manuals, canning and reloading guides, shop manuals for your cars, and so on.

Remember, it’s only 6 things. Plan accordingly.

Black is actually not the best camo for night operations. Black has high contrast, and night is not black. Try going out into places with no ambient light at night some time, you'll see. Dark gray or navy blue is better, especially if its a clear night with star or moonlight.

depends on your area. My group has standardized on OD green because it provides adequate concealment in a variety of environments that are present in our area; forest, grassland, arid steppe.

More important than guns and ammo is food. Obviously you need a gun and some ammo, but you dont need an arsenal and 10,000 rounds. you do need several months worth of food. Preferably a year's supply and seeds and farming tools so you can plant a crop and begin to feed yourself. If you dont have a plan to feed yourself, you'll die when the food runs out.

This is really only possible if the civil war scenario occurs in the U.S. first and then after 15 years of war the U.N. sends in peace keepers to quell the fighting. Without a civil war to weaken it first the U.S. is currently to strong to take and if U.S. influence were to recede due to civil war Russia and China would first conquer everything around them, not invade the U.S. Even in a state of civil war the U.S. would be very costly to invade from a logistical standpoint alone, in all likelyhood if america were to go away russia would first invade europe and china would invade india. Both would initially ignore invading the U.S. in favor of annexing neighboring territories.

I live rural and i really doubt they would evict a majority of their neighbors because Wells Fargo lost some shekels. We're talking about a total collapse of the US dollar/hyper inflation/world wide economic crisis that basically sees the end of all order as we know it. In all likelyhood there will be nobody to collect on your debt.

If the mortgage payments stop coming in, yes. There’s a process, which takes time. That can actually work in favor of the community during a major econo-meltdown. During the last recession, I didn’t make any mortgage payments for about 14 months. Last part of 2007, and all of 2008. Me and my wife had both been laid off within 18 months of each other, we just didn’t have the money to make mortgage payments. Turns out, the bank that held out mortgage had folded early on. Our file went through 3 more banks in a year before landing at some no-name outfit that was actually weathering the storm. They foreclosed on us, but by that time we were in good enough shape that we were able to pull together a refi package and get out from under the default. It was close, though. The notice of public auction had been published, and we had vultures banging on the door at all hours. I think we were down to our last 18 days before the sale before pulling it out.

Another factor to consider is; if there’s a wave of defaults happening all at once, banks will slow down their foreclosure process. They don’t want a shitload of unsellable, nonperforming properties on their books. That’s the kind of thing that can cause a bank to fail.
