/MSG/ Military Surplus General Sight picture edition
Post your sight pictures boys, and argue which bolt action had the best. Peep sights are the best in my opinion. Here's my arisaka, I'm arisaka restoration user btw. I'm happy with how it's turned out, still have to straighten the bolt.
I also won a 1870/1915 vetterli on GunBroker, anyone ever shoot one? I'm planning on loading either half loads or black powder loads in 6.5 carcano. I've seen the Cnrsenal video on it so don't tell me to watch that.
Here's a picture of the whole arisaka, like I said I'm happy with it. As realistically close to as issued as it will get, and much better than the abomination it was.
>tfw that ex dragoon I was interested in was sold this afternoon >tfw no nugget Well, there goes that plan. Can anyone recommend me a good surp for under $750? I kinda leaning towards a German Kar98AZ or a Polish Wz 29 but any other ideas?
Autocorrect changed SKS to AK the first time but not the second time. Anyways, condition of the rifle is pretty good, and I got it for a Hell of a deal. Traded a basic bitch Del-Ton AR upper for it. Even came with a rifle case.
Jonathan Baker
>Chinese assembled AK Gonna assume you meant SKS. Anyway the Sino-Soviet split was in 1956 I believe so it's probably a pretty early one if what you say is true. That's all I have to contribute. I don't know much about SKS even though I have 2.
No sight pictures because im bad at them, but all I've ever heard about the converted vetterlis is just don't shoot them. If you're prepared to do BP 6.5 loads then you should be fine, but proceed with caution. In other news, I won a matching 1916 Spanish mauser with the civil guard crest to go with my M43. I won't shoot it for a while, but as soon as I'm set up after the move I'll start working up a load for it. I guess I'll start right at the bottom of 7.62 NATO load data with a 150 grain projectile.
No, all I have for surp is a Yugo 24/47, a Yugo M48B, a Yugo Capture K98k, and a Type 99. I would love a WWI 1903 or a 1917 but the America tax scares me.
Kevin Sanchez
1917 Enfield sells pretty much in the 600 dollar range. Also be careful if you do find a WW1 1903, the Early ones weren't heat treated properly and are known to explode.
If you wanted you can get a CMP garand starting at 650 dollars, it's 20 dollars to join a CMP club usually and you gotta pay for CMP membership too but it's still pretty cheap

G-guys I can’t stop myself... I put a down payment on yet another rifle
No one else is doing it so I'll post all of mine (the ones I keep in my bedroom anyway) From top left, clockwise MAS-36, K11, Turkish Mauser, and the Arisaka.
The Turkish Mauser is very long and was extremely difficult, please appreciate my great effort to make memes.
Well, should I get a Service Grade or Field Grade M1 if I do decide to get one? Is it worth the extra $100? And what should I expect to pay for a WWI 1903?
Jace James
user, you are a meme.
Luis Rogers
Yeah it's worth the extra 100 IMO. You should expect WW1 1903s to start in the 800 range and go up depending on condition and year of production.
>Also be careful if you do find a WW1 1903, the Early ones weren't heat treated properly and are known to explode.
During the service life of the rifle there were around 46-50 total incidents involving low number rifles (out of tens of thousands made). None of them fatal. Worse injuries were two people lost an eye. Worse case scenario you get a scar and a story, best you need a new pair of pants. If it was going to blow it would have sometime during the past 100 years. All the contemporary story's involve the shooter using "Uncle Billy Bo Bobs special hand loads [X-tra spicy]".
>20 dollars to join a CMP club usually and you gotta pay for CMP membership too but it's still pretty cheap
Back in the days of the DCM you had to hold a club membership and participate in two matches to qualify to buy a Garand. Since the "Militia incident" that changed it from the DCM to the CMP things changed. In the past 23 or so years Congress amended it so much with "affiliates" and "counts as" your kind of have to be a basement dwelling fagot if you don't qualify to get one some way.
>America tax scares me. If you love surp you look for it wherever it might be. If you look deep you can find deals, or at least learn to perceive desperate sellers and get them to budge on price.
>what should I expect to pay for a WWI 1903? Pure M1903's have been hovering around $800+ lately. There used to be a 20%-35% discount for low number since in the past they were less desirable. That seems to have gone away as I've seen recently.
Fuck, I really hope that I can get a nice 1903 for $600ish instead of $800. I also plan on getting a C&R and going to the range to meet the CMP standards for an M1. I'm not sure what I would end up with first but I would like one of each. I also want German and Polish mausers too but they seem to go for a pretty penny as well.
Be honest with me boys, how badly did I do? I've always wanted a Webley in 455, so when I saw a really nice condition 455 cylinder (that I can swap in place of a shaved 45ACP cylinder) up for auction, I got a little overly excited and paid $250 for it. To be clear, I don't own a Webley yet, but this, theoretically, allows me to get a cheaper, more common, shaved cylinder specimen and swap it's shaved cylinder for this intact one.
Recently got an arsenal refinished SMLE. The bore has sharp rifling but the grooves look like they're filled with rust/dirt.
I took a brass brush rod and a large amount of Breakfree CLP and was scrubbing the barrel out, and the CLP kept coming out dark brown on the other end. Ran a large amount of patches down it, and still they were coming out dark brown if it had any CLP in it.
Does anyone with experience know the absolute best bore cleaner to get out specifically "grime" and possibly some rust beyond just regular copper/lead solvents?
Everything else on the gun is in great condition, if it possible to clean the barrel up some it would be even better.
I was about 5 times more accurate with a no4 than with a k98 so go figure

>learn to fucking read auction descriptions BEFORE you bid. Don't make the mistake I made >trips Fucking witnessed, never buy from grey-blanket man ever.
I'm pretty sure it's just one autist same-fagging, he keeps telling me it's not worth any money but I'm not selling it. He also told me several things that would go wrong or that I would be incapable of doing ( I've undertaken much more serious gunsmithing projects in the past) and several other things that just showed how butthurt he was that someone was having fun with a rifle I got for free.

Since we're on the topic of restorations, here is the before picture of my wife, Springfield.
Anywhere I can get a lebel front sight blade? I've had a lebel for a while and it's in good shape and all matching with a mint bore but it's missing the front sight. I've looked around but I haven't been able to find one. Would a berthier front sight blade work?
They're different. Usually the Berthier sights are big and fat with a slot down the middle for low light fighting, while most of the Lebels have the big and with the notch on top that lines up with the battle sight.

4 rounds nazi. 11 marked ML. I've seen it on the internet, not to rare but the out sides had some light corrosion so id rather not risk it safty wise. I managed to wipe it off but better safe than sorry.
Ryder Gomez
I've got a ton of 56r squirreled away. It's too bad the m95 is absolutely torture to shoot. I'm not joking, gotta be the hardest recoiling MIL surp of the day. Makes a jungle carbine no big deal.
Julian Lopez
question for you Jow Forums, I just bought a Hakim and I'm missing the front band a the band base. Does anyone know where I can purchase these items? I've tried sarco and numrich, but they seem to not have any of the items i'm searching for.
Jaxon Allen
Does anyone what kind of a rifle is this other Mauser? Looks like a Gewher 98 that have been bubba'd and its nose cut down flat. Is this original or bubba'd?
At some point you gotta just wonder whether it's all worth it; spending hours upon hours to score a good deal.
Then again, being able to brag "I got X" and then say "For (((Y))) price too, desperate stupid goy seller" is also a joy unto itself. The hunt for a good priced piece of milsurp can be just as enjoyable as the capture.
Noah Robinson
I recommend posting a WTB ad on Gunboards; people there have all kinds of obscure parts that they're willing to hawk. eBay also helps, but they don't appear to have a band for a Hakim.
That's the trouble with milsurp and older guns in general - logistics. Even AK or AR furniture is incredibly easy to replace if you damage it; a cracked stock on something like an Arisaka can often spell hundreds of dollars in replacement if you can even find one.
Mason Taylor
Tough to tell. The bolt doesn't look right to me, but I think there were some German 98s that the Spanish made look like that
Kayden Foster
how do you even use those.
Nathan Bailey
I saw that on GunBroker earlier. They are interarms sporters made in the 1960s, just a bubba'd gew98 in a force fitted mannlicher stock. Although they are slightly more professionally done than Cletus in his backyard shed. I would've bid on it but I have so many other things I want to buy rn
