Some people have serious blindspots. If you're even center-left (most of the state) it's easy to miss how authoritarian things have become in various respects, or how the state is heading straight for fiscal insolvency even on top of a crippling tax burden. Basically being part of the in-group means that you can't really perceive 'your side' as a threat. IMO draconian gun control and anti-gun attitudes are a relatively small part of this, but they are certainly one component of a broader pattern of social and political persecution which is gaining momentum, in this case against conservative types. As Mexican immigration slows down the population flight and decline will become apparent; that and the regulatory burden will slow down markets and the economy will start to spiral. Various identity groups will then fight more and more aggressively over pieces of a smaller and smaller pie, with regulation among other weapons, simply perpetuating the cycle.

Left CA for AZ, shoot with Ian and Karl every month, own an acre and a half of land with a house and 1000 sf garage for under $140k, and pay less in taxes. I didn't follow the guns laws in CA, but it's also nice to not have a target on your back by living in an extremely gun friendly state. I don't think we can really predict what will happen in the future until after the results of the 2020 election are in. If the current trend of identitarian politics and white alienation continue, we could very well see a strong Republican party with electoral success in the future by being the party of whites, for whites. If, on the other hand, this change ceases, we will be looking at a serious leftward shift in American politics within the next decade as parties scramble to secure urban voting bases.

Trump is surprisingly popular among some groups of (young, relatively wealthy) blacks, as well as legal immigrants/citizens of Mexican descent. Those people are counted towards the state's population, and therefore increases it's House representation and Electoral College votes. I think whether or not whites swing right will depend heavily upon who the Dems put up for office. A (relatively) moderate candidate like Biden could slow or even halt the trend, while someone like Warren or especially Harris could accelerate it. If the rightwards swing continues, however, I do think that the Republicans will begin to match their base. Politicians are a savvy breed, and know when to follow the crowd.

I went to college in Cacafornia, and worked a few years there after I got my degree. After being thrashed by taxes, housing prices, overcrowding, illegal foreigners, dindus, bizarre and pointless laws, and a totally retarded State government, I just packed my car with what I could carry-- leaving thousands of bucks worth of tools and furniture behind-- and just fucking left. The gun laws were just the last straw for me. I'm far better off, own my own house, and have far more disposable income even though I get paid less. I can open carry or conceal carry any sort of weapon I choose without a permit. I might go back to visit friends some day, but I wouldn't move back to Cacafornia at gunpoint.
