Damascus steel. American made.

I also own an English claymore.

Knife brainlet here
Does Jow Forums have a recommended brand for Bowie knives?

>I also own an English claymore.

No, and until I get mine I'm not sharing which one I want in case someone buys it before I can afford it. There is one left and it's $60 off and it's mine.

I have one of these.

The fuck is that? Is that supposed to prove something? It looks like a nice EDC knife that I'm actually interested in, but why the fuck are you posting it in a bowie knife thread?

Nice user, how much was it? Which brand?

There is my bowie on the bottom of the pic

I can't be bothered to take a picture of mine, but it's the same as this pic.

I don’t have any traditional like Bowie’s. Although I’m tempted by Silver Stag and the Falkniven Norther Light one looks slick.

Knives pictured are: Cold Steel XL Espada, reground Ontario SP-10, Tops Prather War Bowie, Cold Steel Minitac Bowie, and CRKT Minimalist Bowie.

I just got the Tops and really like it, plan on getting a kydex sheath for it.

Nice Fluted Military. I’ve wanted one since I got my regular Ti military, but would have to get it anodized blue like the earlier ones.

No, most of them are too big for free purchase in my country and I wouldn't buy a Bowie with no crossguard.
I have several clip-point knives though.
Best way to ruin a traditional design is to make it "ergonomic". Finns are ruining puukkos, Americans ruin bowies and even get to ruin knives from foreign lands.

I like the Ontarios, I hear they are high quality.
What would be your ideal Bowie user? Say they dropped all knife laws for you - which one would you get?

Budget:
>up to $100
The cheapest I'd safely go for a working bowie.

Check out Condor Tool & Knife.

The Undertaker Bowie is good if you want a semi-historical look, the Operator if you like modern looking ones.

>$100-200
Svord Bowie is nice for a smaller one and the Von Tempsky if you want a big beater.

I'd also check out Himalayan Imports. Their main product line is in khukris, but they do make some bowies. The AK Bowie is an absolute monster. I had one and I'm not sure I could have broken it if I tried. The Cherokee Rose is nice and is leaner and closer to a historical bowie than the thick beast that is the AK Bowie.

Watch their subforum on Bladeforums for deals on discounted or blemished knives.

>$200+
Plowshare Forge has some bowies that hover around $175-225. They'll be a bit rough and need some cleaning up to do. I also hear the owner can be a bit of a pain to work with. However, for a handmade bowie made entirely by one guy, it's a pretty good price.

Some of the cheaper Bark River bowies can be had around $250 like the V-44

There's also Blackjack Knives for more military style knives that go for $200-250 that are made by Bark River.

>$300-600
You hit diminishing returns here. High end fancier versions by manufacturers like Fallkniven and Bark River live here. No reason to go this high for a worker, just if you want something fancy. If you're going to splurge and have money though, I'd recommend the next tier.

>$600
Custom knife territory. You can get a premium handmade bowie with top of the line materials and/or that extra fraction of a percent increase in quality over high end factories, all for a premium price.

I'd recommend J.W. Bensinger (pictured) or if you can afford to drop 4 figures on a knife, Bill Bagwell.

>English claymore
kek

>American made
Boy that is the most Paki looking knife I've seen posted this week.

Not surprised to see this from a proud owner of an "English claymore"

My perfect Bowie would be a clipped Bowie with a brass cross guard and 17 cm carbon steel blade. Handle would probably be a coffin-shape or something like Bill Scagel's works.
Actually what also interests me is spanish cuchillo - a fixed blade fighting knife, which is rumoured to be one of the inspirations for original Bowie knife. Replicas of them are currently produced by J.L.Vergara, but they're expensive af

Wish this was mine. The original Smithsonian Bowie.

Thank you user
Speaking of AK Bowie(I'm assuming it's a bayonet, but I could be wrong)
My LGS has a garand bayonet in a Bowie style (m1905 bayonet?) - at least that's what the guy at the counter said. I'll see if I can get a pic for Jow Forums
I'll be sure to give the ones you stated a look.
Thanks again user

I "made" this one for 50 ish. Was a cold steel I modified

It’s a joker, don’t remember how much I paid

Custom bowie made by a friend's father.

Problem is that it's the CS Bowie machete, so it looks like a bowie, but it's built like a machete. To thin, flexible, and light to have any real cutting power.

Not really man. This has no flex what do ever.

Compared to typical Bowies that are 3/16-1/4"+ thick, a 2.8mm blade with a soft machete temper is flexible. It's not the flex that is the problem though, it's the weight and balance. I'm betting that handle brings the balance point way back.

It does look really good though considering how it comes stock. How large is the tang compared to the normal Polly handle? Have any pictures of it after you removed the old handle?

I bought one of those two days ago at Cabela's.

looks awesome man any more pics?

>Trailmaster
Based af. One of the most useful knives I own.

That is unnecessary thickness.

Anyone ever watch The Iron Mistress starring Alan Ladd? Always wanted the Knife from that movie.

Are clip points mandatory for bowie knives?

No, but they've come to be the most associated/iconic blade shape of bowies.

The first bowie is most commonly believed to be a reground butcher's knife. The Searles Bowie, a bowie knife commissioned by Jim Bowie's brother Rezin, seems to reflect this.

And one more

Attached: 58016796.jpg (720x540, 45K)

I was looking at one of those, how is it?

With a proper taper and thin edge, not at all. A 1/4 blade stock may bet pushing it, but it allows for a super ridged back bone, that can still slice and chop well with a tall grind, and puts the over all knife at a good weight and forward enough balance with the right kind of handle.

3/16 maybe better if done right... But 2.8mm (bit over 1/10) is too slim. I notice you edge, at lest the bevel, looks mostly factory, it would be much better at cutting if pulled out a bit thinner. And to support that thinner edge, to keep the blade from bending when sinking into something, a thicker spine is important.

Of course bending that CS machete is not an issue, they have a soft temper, and are just about indestructible, they can be bent like 90 degrees with out taking a set... However this soft temper also means they do not hold a fine edge nearly as well as a thicker, higher hardness, bowie made out of a higher carbon steel like 1095 or 5160.

Case bowie? How is it?

Best one I've ever had.

Fuck that faggot

It’s Svord’s take on it by the way. I got the special edition one where it comes with a custom leather sheath. Mine is number 6/25.
