The problem was that the americunts launched their mission without informing the other allies at all. This meant the allies were not really motivated to come help. After all the americunts had literally endangered everyone in the area without giving anyone prior notice. And now they suddenly request aid?

The deployment was very hamstrung. They didn't get to use heavy equipment because that would've looked "too aggressive".
It's also why the Rwandan massacre happened. If the Belgians hadn't been hamstrung by the rules of engagement and actually had had their Leo1A5 on site, there's no way there would've been an uprising.

I find the possibility that they were too cocky to bring extra ammo on the chopper more believable than all the excuses you both gave. If you're fighting for survival and running low on ammo, you're going to do all you can to dig up extra ammo if you know it's there.

They helicopter element was never supposed to land and they were 10 minutes from base by air. It’s like pulling a beat cop for something SWAT should do.

While the leaders did, the infantry guys in TF Ranger didn't bring anything but ammo and frags because they knew better. Another helo was shot to pieces bringing them water and medical supplies in the night.

"in&out" is basically how SOF, namely Rangers and Delta, operates, even to this day.
They often carry like 3 extra mags on them, or ditch side plates because it is too heavy.

I basically blame this operation on the top brass. Not just Garrison. Clearly the entire intel the attack was based on was planned. They didn't know a thing about how the enemy was operating; the US forces didn't expect to be under surveillance from the moment they left their base, didn't know the range of enemy arms, didn't know enemy numbers or how much popular support they had among the locals. Blocked roads was a concept beyond the planners' imagination. There was not even a plan for airborn evac.

So the US forces basically went in "WE WUZ KANGZ" and went out "SHEEEEIT".
