I know the prop piece was made from a Thompson but I always figured the pulse rifle actually had one large magazine that fit in that enlarged well. You can even see one of the tabs on the bottom holding it in. You probably drop the magazine by pushing that tab in and pulling it out.

Why has no one ever built something like this? The decrease in moving parts seems worth it, and I'm sure you could get the necessary charge down enough to get the battery to last ages. Also the ease of machine gun conversion for civi versions would be awesome.

The primer is ignited by electric shock not by a firing pin. Means you can easily have whatever firing rate you want and yeah, being caseless as well would mean you probably wouldn't even need a bolt, just a plate sealing off the chamber from the mag when firing.

Here's one much better - Basically NFA registered m-11 smg lower in 9mm para, Lage conversion pack, suomi 50 round coffin mag, and 3+1 shot remington 870 AOW underbarrel shotty .

Maybe in the past, with modern technology I'm not so sure. With electric primers and electric actuation of the gun you could do things not possible with recoil or gas operated weapons. It would be much easier to DIY assemble than traditional guns but I can't build this sort of thing where I live. It would probably end up working like a small revolver autocannon, you only need one IC + a brushless motor to make it run. It should have very few moving parts, just the motor rotor connected to the revolving section and a mechanism to push ammo into it.

They have but it never caught on for most applications, and even if a battery can last for thousands of rounds it's also just one more thing that can lead to a very bad day with just a bit of neglect. I'm sure they don't have to deal with this much by the time Aliens takes place, they might be using a power cell so capacious or an igniter so efficient that the gun's barrel will wear out before the battery does.
