Don't people say the Baofeng is bad? No idea but that's what I heard somewhere, no idea if it was a meme

The UV-5R is recommended because not only can it receive emergency transmissions but it can also transmit on them

Dremel, sandpaper, sawzall blades.

Never comply.

sometimes a a deals too good to be true even on eBay.
saw a great deal on 2 Baofeng radios for like $10 brand new. Placed the order through paypal and then next day the guy canceled his account and Im still waiting for the radio. I still have one more month to wait...You think I got hosed?

No, they're really fucking good for a $20 just in case radio. Get two for road trip convoys, etc.

You probably want something a bit more rugged if you're planning on jumping out of APCs with it though.

The only thing that spooks me about lightning links is the ATF might use their existence to classify ARs as "readily convertible" into machine guns, like how they did many guns in the 80's and 90's, especially open bolt/fixed firing pin guns.

Most of it's 70+ year old ham radio guys salty a $30 radio can perform close to the same as a $200 radio. They're cheap, they work, and they're even somewhat rugged. The stock antenna sucks though, A Nagoya NA-701, 771, or other antenna will improve performance greatly.
They've existed since before AR's were popular.

UV-10R or UV-9R is so much better. You can find it on ali-express, it ships from china or russia but the shipping is quite good. Got mine in 9 days for $35 total.

Much more powerful transmit, bigger battery, better controls, and most importantly WATERPROOF. It even has gold plated contacts on the side for accessories, instead of the shitty headphone-jack type.

I have abused the shit out of mine and it does not perform like chinkshit. Works really well.

Oh yeah, have a frequency range chart I threw together.
Tell paypal they never shipped, get your money back. The cheapest I ever saw was 2 for $20 USD a few years back, before their popularity skyrocketed / FCC drama.

That is a an interesting way to look at it. However, ARs are so commonplace and parts are so readily available I think they would have a hard time with that. Of course, it won't stop them from trying.

If it gets that bad best you can do is tool up and make everything yourself. Save what information you can now before the information itself is made illegal.

got ripped off on ebay too. ordered a nagoya antenna and the picture they showed was the right product. when i got it is was a cheap knock off......what if some crazy gook packed one with a surprise and when you get it and turn it on chairman mao laughs!

I'm not sure that's exactly how it works, but I don't know nearly enough about banana's to dispute you.

>Tell paypal they never shipped, get your money back
I could but I could also wait another month and maybe get them, right

If it was eBay I had the same thing happen once, you can give them some extra time but seriously, just get your cash back user.

You always run that risk with cheap chinese imports. Sometimes it's legit, sometimes it's trash. YMMV.

I’ve had two UVR-5s for a couple years. Easy to program with Chirp. Cops in my town are still unscrambled to it’s endlessly entertaining. Also use it to listen to FM while I’m loading the dishwasher. Make sure you get a programming cable and a big antenna. I’m using a small car top antenna in my kitchen.

yep i got two one for me and one for gf

lol

Be prepared.

Put it this way you can't get a real nogoya antenna on line under $15, and more like $22

I see $17 with free shipping on Amazon for a real NA-771. Alternative would be to try the Radioddity RD-771, which should be a real Nagoya antenna under the RadioOddity name. The real question is how does a Chinese factory consistantly screw up making loading coils, so all the fake ones suck- It's math a 2nd year EE student can do.

>UV-10R
whats better, the 10? just guessing since higher number
