level IV plates are very robust.

You need tungsten core .308 like m993 or similar rounds to reliable penetrate them.

Not much more than anything else, steel core is NOT armor piercing.
My 1/4" steel laughs it off. Flattens it out and barely leaves a mark. Lead core xm193 556 on the other hand, that wrecks anything it touches inside of 100 yards because of the speeds. Zips through and damages the 2nd 1/4" plate more after passthrough than 54r did to the first.
