you can join the feds to get training and experience and then move on to an organization that more appropriately aligns with your outlook and views doing the same job.

a degree relevant to what you want to do with the feds is ideal, but it will vary organization to organization.
same with mil jobs, otherwise you really just have the extra brownie points of being a vet on your application.
the fbi won't care if you did 10 years as infantry if you're applying for a cyber security position.

but every organization has its own quirks and you just need common sense. if you want to be an intel analyst for say...the NSA, then you can do it with a computer science degree since they are computer nerds.
that wouldn't apply to most agencies, however. so just use common sense. most importantly, however, get your foot in the door then you can move around laterally a lot easier.

I imagine a minor in the right languages would help tremendously.

I thought about volunteering to fight in West Papua. Despite my best efforts I do not have direct contacts to the Free Papua Movement.

I've also contacted the KNLA in Myanmar but their leader shrugged me off. He seemed interested about receiving international volunteers but when I sent him a brief description about my experience and service he stopped replying.

I'm going to try to contact other groups in Myanmar (like the Kachin and Arakan) since the KNLA are too snobbish and selective now because they are currently receiving major financial aid, training and resources from the Free Burmese Rangers

most "private security" guys here work in the city and are like american security guards, they sit in a booth and let cars in or out, do patrols and only really carry a pistol, back in the 80's and 90's up until the early 2000's they actually did a lot of police type stuff but not anymore, farmers don't often employ security because most farmers have their own firearms and a kommando type network with other farmers if there's trouble

the only real operators here now are STF which is paid and township kommando which isn't paid, both of which require citizenship

learn arabic or french, you'd get to operate in northern africa and western africa where nobody wants to put actual soldiers

There are militias. Quite a few midwest/west and a ton of them in Michigan (where I live currently). They'll take just about any breathing human, will train you on basic stuff and wilderness survival as well.

Some of them shipped their people to the middle east recently, don't know what came of that.

Not the person you replied to but I've found that China is hit or miss with the programs they offer. It helps to know someone who's run with a program that they speak highly of but my experience with a cultural emersion and Mandarin Chinese program was that it was an utter scam. You just need to be diligent with your research and there's a lot to be offered in terms of international experience and employment.
