I looked at those. Mossberg sells wood furniture on their site but its different than the stuff on the retro. They purposefully dont sell the wood furniture separately because its the only difference from a standard 590a1. You'd be better off just buying a standard 590a1 then buying aftermarket wood furniture.

I'm looking to get a 12 gauge pump action shotgat with a fit and finish above that of modern production 870s or Mossy 500s, a minimum 3 inch chamber, a decently smooth feeling pump, and at least 6 rounds of capacity (with 2 3/4 inch shells, less is acceptable if magazine extensions are available) what are my options? Your suggestions don't necessarily have to still be in production so long as they are still decently common or easily found.

Are chink model 1897s any good? I heard original 1897s don't stand up to modern 12ga loads that well and are almost all long or chopped barrels, while I'd like one with a shorter barrel.

The forcing cone is short on a lot of og 1897s, with that fixed theyre fine, you can always clean up a poorly chopped barrel.

My deeply upgraded Maverick 88. I upgraded to a 500 action slide tube, put on Magpul furniture, Shoten Armory extended slide release, swing swivel, GG&G light mount, Velcro for an Esstac shotgun card, and Hi-Viz snap-on sight. The Limbsaver is there mostly to increase length of pull a little, but I don't mind a little extra cushion too. Inside is an MCarbo extra power spring set that cleared up a light primer strike problem I was having, and reduced trigger pull weight from 8 pounds to 5 pounds.
I know that's a lot of upgrades to put into a $180 gun, but now it's just the way I like it. ^_^

Did I fuck up buying Charles Daly? There's so little info online about their pumps. But I can find plenty on their semi autos and double barrels. The general consensus seems to be that fudds by them then they break down too soon. I bought this one then left the state for a few months so I haven't shot it, and its just been weighing on me that i probably wasted the money. More than cheap crap breaking, i expwct that, I'm mad that there seems to be no replacement parts around. It's not similar enough to my 870 to share parts, I don't have a Mossberg to compare it to. Anyone got any idea what it's a clone of, if it is a clone of something?

I have a early 1940's model 12 in 12 gauge. The barrel has been polished to remove previous burrs/fowling and in doing so I'm pretty sure it removed the choke. Is there any reason not to chop the 26" barrel down to 18"?

First shotgun. Definitely won't be my last. Have an 18" security barrel on it for home defense. Every time I shoot it I can't stop laughing at how much damage it does to a paper target. I'm sure people at the range think I'm a perfectly sane individual.
What is the best way to clean the barrel of a shotgun? I got a 'shotgun cleaning kit' but the rod is not think enough without putting 7 or 8 patches stacked on top of eachother through it. There must be a better way to clean it. I need to clean it soon. I fucking hate field stripping the Mossberg 500 though. It's a giant pain in the ass to put back together.

Don't listen to those people, They have probably never experienced how those old boats ride (float) especially over the highway, how having a giant bench seat up front is super comfy and can let your little lady saddle up next to you (necking in high school), how nice having a back seat big enough for three grown men to actually sit is nice for your passengers, and this all ignores how simpler servicing the engine is when you actually have room to move under the hood.
Growing up my one grandfather had a caddie and the other had a buick. Riding in those things were always so much fun, and I loved "helping" them work under the hood because I got to curse "like the men" and they wouldn't tell grandma or my parents.
