I don't think that's how it worked. You wouldn't gain anything compared to a normal bullpup if you had to push the bullet all the way into the chamber like in pic and that thing was supposed to have a crazy long barrel for how short it is.

What it misses out is that the bit with the ramp never moves, and the extractor and piston are pushed forward by the initial gas pulse so that the piston spring is compressed and the extractor grabs the spent case. The compression of the spring then causes the extractor to move backwards, where upon the case flips upwards on the ramp and slides into the extrator tube. The extractor is then pulled back by the spring forcing the spent case along the extractor tube and grabing a new round that is then fed into the firing chamber. The motion of moving back forward again also brings the piston/extractor back into contact with the mechanism that moves the firingpin arm up and down, so as the spring pushes the extractor back one last time the firing pin arm slides up and seals the firing chamber ready to fire.
So to recap:
Firing pin slides down as extractor is forced forward by gas pulse
The extractor grabs the spent case
the extractor bounces back
the extractor bounces forward again
the extractor bounces back once more
the firing pin locks into place.
