The Brits have only ever been half-hearted in their defence of Northern Ireland. There is a sizeable part of the Establishment/Deep State which would be quite happy to cast off NI and not have it take up their time anymore, they just can't publicly admit it. There's a very realistic chance that these guys could literally be running the British government in the near future and if so Uster Unionists are in for a bad time.
