Why would it need to? They are on the same team.

I want to know the truth!

Well in that case, yeah it absolutly does. Might not be on par in certain areas, but it has a chance. Most 4th+ gens also have a chance, be it less of one.

The F-35's sensor suit is probably superior and should have the ability to detect the F-22 first but how that translates into actual pk in combat is totally up to the circumstances at hand. There are numerous points that have to be considered though so it's not a "X wins over X" answer. It never is and never will be, no matter how many threads of this kind spawn.

Opinion discarded.

In a within visual range arena not a chance. BVR it may have some game. But thats not really what it was built for. It's multi role, but its more an air to ground jet that can do air to air in the way a Raptor is an air to air jet that can do air to ground.

Cope

oh shit, the f-45 doesn't have these things... how will american ever recovery?

The F-22 was meant to be a dedicated air superiority fighter specifically designed to be the best at air combat. The F/A-35 is a multi-role fighter that doesnt excel at any particular task and is really set up better for ground operations. So the F-22 would probably win more often, due to being talored to the specifc fight. That's why even though, they aren't planning on building more Raptors, the Lightning II is not replacing any of the current ones.

I mean, on paper, yes.

During the first exercise the F-22 shot down F-15/F-16 in ratio 122:1, so technically there is a chance.

"During their first major exercise in Alaska last year, F-22s from the 27th Fighter Squadron shot down 144 "enemy" F-15s and F/A-18s in mock dogfights."

...

"The 57th Adversary Tactics Group undertook some interesting tactics not contained in the overall [scripted] intelligence scenario. These involved surprise threats, generally Red Air [enemy] fighters, entering the air battle unexpectedly. White Force [exercise control] staff would confirm that the threat was Red and Blue Air [the "good guys"] had to react. The tactic worked. An F-16C pilot assigned to the 64th Aggressor Squadron gained the first-ever F-22 kill in Red Flag. [94th commander] Lt. Col. Dirk Smith told AFM: "At least half of the 94th FS crews had less than 50 hours in the F-22 and no matter how magical the F-22, any pilot can make a mistake. The beauty of Red Flag is that we were able to go out and practice our tactics in a challenging scenario, make a mistake, learn a lesson, and be that much better prepared for actual combat.""

How so? You're not out turning an AIM-9X. Its irrelevant what you're flying at this point.
