It’s a standard 18 mm dewault box cutter with a filet knife blade installed instead of a normal razor. Installed a wood pin farther back than the normal one, all done with a drill and file. Very effective work knife in my opinion

My knives vary in sharpness, nearly all are just as they are out the box - which is mostly "sharp enough" with a few being blunt as fuck. Sharpest knives I have being the Spyderco Endura, Paramilitary 2, Gerber Mark II, and chink knockoff of a Terry Guinn Ring Fighter. If Cold Steel's plastic FGX shanks (too dull to cut boxes/tape efficiently, overall worthless for EDC) is good enough as a weapon (punches through 8+ layers of cardboard just fine and still rips shit up with its tiny serrated edges), it further makes me wonder why some people are so obsessed with a razor fine edge. I guess because it takes less effort to cut shit? I mean I can see the appeal in that regard, as far as cutting steaks and shit, but as a weapon, I don't think it matters since it's not like most people are walking around in suits of armor. And if I'm striking at someone or something with it, I'd be doing it with purpose, and so I'd be putting effort into it anyway... so IDK. I'm not arguing that I think a completely dulled knife works "just as well" as one that'll split hairs, just that it doesn't need to be razor sharp to be a weapon.

Well I assume as we are discussing a knife as a weapon due to the local of our conversation. Hacking is all but impossible in crowded areas. The wide swings of the arms themselves leave a lot to be desired. Jumping around and hack slicing like they do in the Philippines is just a silly meme.
To use your knife you must close the distance or have the distance closed on you. The absolute most effective way to end an incident quickly is to completely incapacitate your opponent. So assuming you are willing to learn anatomy and put the time in to learn the reach and balance of your knife... you are looking for something like the V42 or any decent double edged dagger style knife. Many styles patterned after those used in trenches will work.

Thanks! I looked up what other people did online and got the idea to use a drawer slider for the basic mechanism, but nothing major beyond that. Made a prototype as a proof of concept then the one in the webbum with what I learned from it.
It was intended to be grasped and used to augment a punch. And 2.5 inches of penetration on what you punch is pretty good.

an easy sharpening guide i found was 2 nickles taped together and to the spine of the knife, it's quick and dirty but you can learn the feel from there
