Check pawn shops in your area for lightly used Smith and Wesson model(s) 686, 586, 681 or 581. All are medium sized L frame revolvers chambered in .357 mag. For the money, you cannot buy a better shooting and more versatile handgun.

I like the S&W Model 10 or its stainless counterpart, the Model 64.

I don't shoot .357 Magnum, but if you want one then you can get a S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 instead. Same benefits as the Model 10 and 64, just with .357 Mag capability.
