Gun Grease

Tell me about gun grease Jow Forums, do you use it and what are some brands you like? I notice most folk around here just seem to stick to oil.

>grease
I use oil and Ballistol is bestol.

No. I use oil. When oil stops working I'll see a reason to switch it up.

So far it's been quite a few years. Oil still working.

What's a good oil that doesn't evaporate in only a few days? Seems like anything I just straight up disappears the next day, even if I completely drown the rails in it.

i use the cum of mine enemies. gotta keep your enemies closer then your friends yaknowimsayin

For handguns I use the lightest coat of CLP on the rails. For the AR I drown the bitch in CLP before every range day, mostly lubing the BCG and chamber/locking lugs. Modern guns probably don't need lube. Just keep them clean and they'll keep you clean.

Grease attracts contaminates and can fill up tolerances that would in turn cause failures.
This is why most gun maintenance manuals and gun professionals will recommend gun oil in correct moderation in the places you need it.

Very few guns actually require grease usually automatics and removable muzzle devices

Oil usually leaves a small film layer that works to lubricate

hoppes is shit!

Ignore grease unless you live in a very warm climate or the firearm particularly calls for it. Its much more prone to inducing low temperature related failures than oil and also likes to collect discharge related or environmental byproducts producing an increasingly viscous and abrasive compound. A good example of an exception to this would be firearms with steel on anodized aluminum contact points like the sig p22x series, with which proper greasing can considerable extend frame life.
Mineral oil, motor oil, any quality ""gun oil"". I literally have left firearms sitting for over a month after applying basic bitch mineral oil and its still there. Unless your oil is mostly made of volatile compounds it isn't going to just evaporate in a few days. Runoff is a much more legitimate concern, but only with the thinnest and most watery of ""oils"", and even then theres usually enough left on after initial excess has runoff to be effective at its job.

CLP on every surface inside and out

Yea, particularly the firing pin channel, wouldn't want that to dry up

Best grease is Lubriplate 130-A, its the same 'gauge' of grease as cherry balmz but for a fraction of the price (no sweet smellz tho)

Not so much grease as it is a really thick lube/oil

I love how you can find at least one person every thread that says this but nobody knows where it came from or can provide any evidence

Ballistol universal and ballistol multi-purpose are the exact same thing just with difference can designs, right?

000 through 0 grade grease is semi fluid, it's a official ATSM designation for grease, 0000 doesn't exist though and is marketing, it's a thick oil

G96 lube.
Slip EWL is good.

U.S cuck law rates it not for consumption but you can consume ballistol, and it's marketed for consumption in Europe and other countries

What’s wrong with hoppes? I’ve used it for years and it seems to work great.

Why would you do that?

Why would you consume ballistol though? I know you technically can, but I figured the main point of being non-toxic is so you can use it in a poorly ventilated area or not really worry if some accidentally gets into an open wound, not because after you've cleaned your guns you spray some right into your mouth because you want your breath to smell like licorice.

It's good for upset stomachs and is a mild laxative.

No shit? Well that's kinda neat.

ballistol is almost entirely medicinal grade mineral oil, so it makes sense.

they make a ballistol infused energy drink in europe.

>ballistol confirmed for mineral oil
Why not just buy mineral oil for literally a fraction of the price

I use penzoil. Whatever, its all high temp anti carbon steel-on-steel oil

>If swallowed, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING, ASPIRATION CAN OCCUR. CONSULT A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY

How many retards have you baited today?

what oil are you using that evaporates in a few days?
i use ballistol and have gone months without shooting and it's still there.

There's always pic related.

>it's real
what the fuck
im tempted to taste my can of ballistol now...

For general cleaning and wipe downs, bores, and rimfire: Ballistol

For centerfire bolt carriers and misc moving parts: slip2000 exclusively. Can't be beat. Every other product either burns off too quickly, or is too thick and gums up.

For special applications where you need ridiculous staying power: CherryBalmz or ALG very-thin-grease.

For extreme cold weather: Winter Balm.

For extreme corrosion protection (boating accidents or gun burial): FrogLube Paste and VCI bags.

>trolling people into getting slamfires
kek

Ballistol, hoppes elite, normal hoppes, m-pro7
Tried them all and the gun goes dry the moment I look away.

Don't do this, cleaner ballistol is a very different animal to spurdo ballistol

fuck you
fuck you
fuck yeah
do you live in a desert or something? i've lived on the east coast and in the middle of texas and no probs. i keep my shit stored in a room that's not opened very often.

now were thinking.

>boomercom shit tier literally who lube

I bet you bought into the froglube hype to faggot.

the real question is if it is necessary to lube the gas chamber

Neato, I did not know that. I definitely assumed it was just a marketing gimmick or something, like the word "staynacity"
Either way I love it. ALG fucked up one of my orders and gave me a free bottle as compensation and I havent looked back since

I use WD-40 specialist on 1911 and AR bolt carrier rails. Might try it on the lever gun. Comes in a tube, enough to last forever.

>evaporates
>attributes to rust over time
I mean if you reapply like every month it'll probably be halfway okay

I use shooters choice grease on all metal to metal contact points. It stays put, doesnt flash off, works in a wide variety of temperatures, and inhibits ice formation between metal parts. I use it on literally everything I own battle rifles, intermediate rifles, shotguns, pistol rails and lugs, all metal to metal surfaces (use your common sense obviously dont grease your fucking piston). AR buffer tubes quiet down quiet down with it too. I use oil or motorcycle chain lube for corrosion resistance, not lube. try it and youll like it, fite me.

addendum, don't expose greased parts to blowing dust/sand/debris.

Super Lube PTFE Grease. $6ish at Harbor Freight and many other places. Non-Toxic, Food Grade, non staining clear grease. Truthfully, nearly any modern NLGI #2 automotive grease will work well for those guns that call for it.

grease is for high heat applications only like hmgs and is counter productive for lighter hardware so for everything that's not an hmg use weapon sheild. literally /thread/ if u disagree fuck you go to reddit and kys.

The thought of Hickock45 juiced up on energy drinks is kinda frightening.

It's not 1930 anymore.

That's not true at all.
t. eurotrash

I just use RIG, oil is probably better for lubrication, but I trust grease works better as a rust preventive. There’s likely nothing that backs up my views though, I’m just a sperg. Never had a malfunction from grease caking up with debris, but I usually keep it light. Grease seems to last me longer too.

Im relatively new to gun maintenance and wanted to know what is a good cleaner and what is a good long term oil? Or both if they can be combined into one product.

wrong as fuck.

Grease is superior for wear protection, and you really should be using grease on guns, if it slides grease it, if it rotates, oil it.

you can figure out what parts of your gun need grease or oil.

Don't drink ballistol you fucking retard.

Attached: G96 Bio.jpg (440x1382, 108K)

For retard proofing shit so you can't fuck it up, breakfree CLP is your go to. My preferred gun cleaner is Hoppes No. 9, I know it's a copper solvent technically but it does a very good job at carbon removal since it's kerosene based. I like ballistol for lubricant.

Or if you want to nuke your guns, brake or carb cleaner and 5w-30

>what is a good cleaner and what is a good long term oil
Hoppe's #9 and Hoppes gun oil.

>if they can be combined into one product
Nope.

Ballistol is good for cleaning, just spray it onto a dirty part, let it soak for a few second, wipe it off. It's also non-toxic so you can use it indoors, granted everything will smell like licorice for a few days, so it's pretty much retard proof.
