Can we get a thread going for the sweet looking stuff the Warsaw pact had? Sure the ideology sucked but the aesthetics were on point.

Yes, this is in fact a Soviet soldier with an M16
Greetings, comrades!

That's 1990s Russia...
Ah shit, I thought it was Afghanistan, not Chechnya, my bad.
The camouflage uniform is a give-away my man.
That's what is commonly called VSR which was widely issued between 1993-2000.
Camo was uncommon previously in the USSR, except for the birch camo oversuits and paratroopers and marines received a woodland type of uniform.
That's neat to know, though I thought by the 1990's most of Russia used AK-74's with only a small handful of AKM underfolders being used mainly with their pbs-1 suppressors.
Post yugoslavs with m48s
Were they ever used outside of a marksmen/sniper role in the Yugoslav wars later on? I own one and from what I've read it seems like they were mostly put into storage, examined by an armorer every five years, tested, and then returned to storage. Very nice rifle though the stock seems thicker than other Mausers.
A fair amount of GRU guys carried M16A1s and XM177s in Afghanistan
Give DDR GF
Incorrect combination of gear RRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
That's a post-unification photo from a book first published in 1995. Daniel Peterson who authored the book was the head curator of the 1st Armored Div (1AD) Museum during that time. Many of the backdrops are of Baumholder, Germany where the 1st Armored was stationed, and many of the "models" were American GIs.
>the ideology sucked
The late eras of the Warsaw pact were arguably more right wing and nationalist than their leftist counterparts
This. There's a reason why modern-day Russia is a powerhouse of White Nationalism.
>tfw even the very last people born in the DDR are 30yo boomers
Posting ČSLA soldiers and paratroopers.
Would you like to see some Czechoslovakien People's Militias?
context?
>tfw slav east german mutt
I don’t know what it is about Warsaw Pact aesthetics, but damn do I love it.
The only part of the ideology that sucked was the central economic planning, as for everything else it was Nationalist, Racialist, Male Supremacist and Anti-Semitic awesomeness.
PIC: T-62 smashes into a house in Prague as part of the operation to resolutely put an end to the (((1968))) protests.
>tfw everyone had peak post-Wehrmacht camo aesthetics except some dork countries like Hungary
How did I not know about this.
That's about as surprising as the East-German police SF with G-33's.
War Trophy from Afghanistan I believe, how an M16A1 ended up in Afghanistan I have no idea.
My guess would be bought from SE asia, A1s are all over the place there.
The few possible sources I can think of:
>CIA
>China supplying Vietnam War captures
I don't know if Iran of Pakistan had any M16's at the time.
Any Cold War era pics of the Soviet Army?
I love how unhappy everyone looks to be taking that picture.
That and they aren't under their own flags.
Looks like they fetched some grunts together for a photo-op, and everyone just wants to go fuck off to whatever they were doing.
Forgot pic
This counts as PACT because it's East Germans filming and interrogating a POW in Vietnam
>Bulgarian manlet paratroopers
WHO DREW THIS?
There are no US Army Lieutenants in that picture
wait what the hell
It's one of several well-known photographs of a police SWAT team in the 89-91 reunification era wearing paratrooper uniforms and wielding a mix of Western and Eastern arms. Since West Germany didn't have enough uniforms to outfit a huge influx of new personnel, former Vopos now employed by the Federal Republic initially retained their DDR uniforms and gear.
No, DDR bought H&K rifles for some odd reason.

-AKM
-PM-63 RAK
-PSM pistol
-SSG 82 sniper rifle
-SVD Dragunov
-Heckler & Koch HK33[6]
-Heckler & Koch MP5
I was referring to the specific photographs, which are obviously from the immediate post-DDR era.
Commie states had a very hush-hush approach to special forces, so there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that the Stasi would have even considered taking full-color glamour shots of their sooper seekrit unit.
Thread's theme
Ok, if you want to think like that.
The Western-style stenciled "POLIZEI" on their backs is a dead giveaway. No such thing was done in the DDR.
Is there anything more fascist-awesome looking than the East German M56 helmet?
Protip: There isn't

damn the raindrop camo really fits the style
There is this story in Finnish army about this one conscript.
A conscript was in his basic training, and when there weren't any classes or training, he was driving around the barracks with his invisible moped. He drove it around and after some time, the lieutenant started to worry about him and send him to the garrison hospital. He got C-papers (medical exemption during peace time) from the garrison doctor.
Well, after he returned his stuff and said goodbyes to his room mates, he drove to the garrison gate with his invisible moped. He showed his papers to the MP at the gate, drove few meters from the gate and parked his moped next to it. Then he hopped off of it and said "now I don't need you any more" and started walking to the bus stop laughing.
