Refurbishing guns

anyone have any experience with this?
Im kind of a poorfag and search gun broker for cheaper things to buy, and usually I can find a firearm thats super (dangerously) cheap. Like only 200 dollars but theyre beat up and rusty. Im tempted to buy it and clean it up, but dont k now how or if its worth it.

Won't be worth $, but it is really fun and you end up with a nice gun.
I don't plan on ever selling any of my guns so, I have no problem restoring them, including my Mosin, Dan Wesson, 1903A3, and Mauser.

Nigga did you take a photo of my gun?

Don't bother making them look pretty, make them functional and leave it at that.

Patina is pretty and it tells a story.

'tells a story'
>"I got this rusty piece of shit, if only guns could talk"
>Do you shoot it?
>"No it rusted shut"

Patina != Rust, dumbass

>cylinder gap/headspacing is the #1 no deal for guns.

>external rust is an easy fix.
>funiture can usually be repaired and cleaned
>check the rifling, it may be cheap bacause it is worn
>chack the mechnisms, be certian

Kek

is parkerizing a gun worth it?

how to fix rust?

I unbubba'd an arisaka recently, I've done a few guns. I really enjoy it but you gotta realize how easily you can ruin a gun. But in the end it's just money.

I have a Royal Hong Kong Police marked Model 10 that is in pretty good shape but has holster wear and some rust I can't seem to get off.

I know these aren't exceptionally rare or anything, but I've been avoiding doing anything to "restore" it. Worth or nah?

>electroplate
>wriebrush/steel whool +rust breaker

it will permanently be pitted.

pitting in the rifling will cause your velocity and accuracy to suffer.

some part if they are too rusted may half to be replaced. some parts like the frame if it is too far gone you will probably be better off trashing it.

You should swap those pictures around because I thought you bubba'd it before I read your post

depends on what you have and why you want to do it, did you find a $50 bubba bin gun that is restorable: you can restore it but it probably won't be worth what you put into it, did you get a hand me down beat to shit item from granpa: if you are gonna keep it as something to pass down within the family (as you should) then get a pro to restore it very costly but will be worth it, to collectors though if you must sell leave it alone

California? I just saw one sell on calguns

Not I, no.

Oil and fine synthetic steel wool. Oil up the gun and buff off the rust. Disassemble the gun and clean/lube it. That's all I'd to it if it was mine.

And no this won't hurt the remaining bluing. See This is how I took the rust off my Fitz.

That's all I have done to it but there appears to be some rust in some minor pitting on one side. I'm hesitant to put steel wool to it in case I fuck the bluing up.

Douse it in oil and buff away. It'll be fine.

Doesn't look bad. Maybe put some tung oil on those grips to protect them and so they don't look so dry.

Guns that are in good shape mechanically but have finish wear are aesthetic as fuck.

I bought several old guns and fixed them up. Depending on the gun and what it needs, you can get your hands on a fine piece of equipment for cheap. Do your research and see what’s what before jumping in. Look around at cheap beat up shit at pawn shops and study what it would take to refinish it and whether parts are available from numrich or wherever before you buy.

Make sure the rust did not leave pits in the barrel or cylinder.
