Amphetamines, mainly because it can be used for short periods of time without major side effects and withdrawal.

They had a great amphetamine high and could march for days and days on foot no sleep, making for an effective blitzkrieg. but the problem with drugs is once they wear off or tolerance develops, reality is gonna hit you like a ton of bricks. i recently had to experience a surgery and recovery due to a collapsed lung, and let me fucking tell you that even the recovery from that for the 4 days I had to have a tube in my chest it was very uncomfortable on the minuscule amount of painkillers i was given and could feel everything. the pain I experienced is nothing like what people had to endure during war.
