Open carry is still carry, and smol guns are still easier to carry comfortably than a full-size 16" AR.
If you haven't tried carrying a 7"-10" AR pistol on a 2-point sling, you really ought to give it a try (around the farm or innawoods, not in town), you'd be amazed how much handier it is than a rifle. You can tuck it vertically under your left armpit and still kneel or squat without dropping the muzzle in the dirt, or if you snug it up across your chest it runs from left hip to right shoulder with no protrusion to either side.
