It's a very effective round but it's debatable whether it's slight increase in effectiveness is worth the sacrificed capacity vs 9mm. Some say no some say yes.

One benefit is that during ammo scares there was always 40 on the shelves when every box of 9mm was gone.

A $400 USP is a nobrainer though and the gun was designed around 40.
