Are any battle rifles as reliable as an AK?

FN FAL

Reliable? No
Better? It doesn't matter, you are gonna get shot first anyway.

Many.

AKs aren't that reliable, and for as much as this board likes to shit on boomers, I'm surprised more people don't reject the dumb ass Vietnam era draftee myth of the unstopable AK. The dust cover is hotdog down a hallway and the FCG is wide the fuck open. Little bit of grit in there and that gun will seize solid on you. Shit like the AR-15 at least tries to seal the trigger pack when it's in battery.

M14

G3. They turn up in the same nog bushwars as AKs and still work.

Not really. FAL had a really spotted history with dust/sand issues.

Dude do you really think anybody will take you seriously when you talk about ars being more reliable than aks?
You must be very stupid to think ppl here are that stupid

the G3 would like to have a word out back with you two

Molot also made veprs in 308, 30.06, and 7.62x54r. Then of course there are the psl, svt, dragunov etc in 7.62x54r but those are more DMRs really.

Also whoever said AKs aren't reliable is a fucking nut job. I live in a desert and run my hard in the sand all the time and they do great

AKs are reliable but other rifles are more reliable.

What about the MDR?

it's snowflake ejection system has too many small moving parts. I wouldn't trust it clean and well-lubed, let alone in adverse conditions.

SCAR is reliable, G3 too.

WANT

Go watch a torture test stupid

>offers no counterpoint
>strawmans
Hes winning right now

more reliable at sucking dick

>the receiver is wiiiide open
>and that's a bad thing

I could bend your AR out of spec by pushing it against my knee with both hands. The tolerances are very tight, meaning if you slightly bend the receiver or buffer tube the BCG won't move back/forth, it'll get stuck. On top of that, both of these things are made out of fucking aluminum rather than steel. ARs do not hold up to being run over by a vehicle, and are on fact VERY easy to bend out of spec, especially the buffer tube. You can't even mortar the damn thing, don't come here saying it's a reliable gun. They're definitely not known for their reliability.

lol'd

If you're so confident it's not possible send me your AR. The receiver might be a bit more difficult but the buffer tube is a joke. Bent buffer tubes are definitely a thing from AK guys who become gay and buy an AR, then try to mortar one of the many jams they now get.

I'd argue in some aspects the G3 is more reliable, at least with extracting. Due to its fluted chamber it can operate without an extractor, although its tolerances are tighter and in my experience stoppages are really annoying to clear in a G3 (mine was a PTR-91) when they do occur due to its charging handle.

The FAL is also really nice but definitely not as good, although I do prefer it for other reasons.

Can the FAL run steel ammo though? Genuine question

AKs can take a lot more dirt in action than 99% of other rifles
But sadly they are likely to take that much and more dirt than other rifles

This.
Ive seen about 20 youtube vids of ARs failing and pretty much no videos of aks failing.
The kaleshnikov is simply a
Superior weapon.

This. G3 is the best battle rifle for its simplicity and durability.

M14s are jammomatics

Such a shame that Molot stuff can't be imported anymore. I'd love to get my hands on a Molot 308 or 7.62x54r. Something about an AK-style rifle with a ~20 inch barrel makes me sweaty. All the available stuff is so expensive or hard to find.

Actually false. The FAL was replaced by AK type rifles in south Africa and Israel for a reason.

>I-I've seen videos..

lol

Bait

>You must be very stupid to think ppl here are that stupid
user most of Jow Forums doesn't even own guns, they just spout memes as if they're gospel

Kvar dumb dumb

The Molot Super Vepr in 308 is the only thing I'd be interested there, but I don't think I want it.

Anyone?

I would avoid it if possible but the answer is "it depends". There are some people who have had issues with steel case, some who haven't.

Tard

The issue is I have ~450 of wolf steel case .308 and an AR10, a M1A, a FAL, and a C308 and don't want to shoot it out of the first two. I guess I could just have it dedicated to my C308

A PTR91 will sling steel all day long. I've seen one Cetme run steel perfectly and another one run it abysmally.
Just depends on the gun.

The Spanish government should give the CETME blueprints to private companies

~450 round
So absolutely nothing

I've run wolf through my FAL. Works fine, however accuracy is dogshit. I dont like turning expensive ammo into noise while shooting 5" at 100Y :(
I learned my lesson and stopped shooting wolf except through my krinkov at shit that is close up.

wow who would have guessed someone would blindly recommend a fal

I want a 7.62 to complete my package. I'm leaning very heavily toward the PTR. Is this a good call? I love the shape/platform and I have read plenty to be optimistic about the performance.

Is there a better option? If so, what and why?

Which version is the best to go with?

Any advice on where to look?

how about an AR10?

If you want an objectively better rifle, a modern AR10 is cheaper.

Love my PTR though, fuck the rail it ruins the line

Is the AK being a Battle Rifle a hot new meme? I feel like I've encountered this before, and recently, and "The AK is a BATTLE RIFLE NOT AN ASSAULT RIFLE!!!" is something a leftbook antigunner has actually said to me recently

Are you fucking retarded? The receiver being wide open and loose tolerances is why it's so hard to jam you dumb shit. The mechanism is ridiculously hard to clog and there are numerous examples all over the internet of people shoving shit in their AK and it still shooting reliably up to and including a ham sandwich, black powder, and blocks of modelling clay. You have no fucking clue what you are talking about, kys

Take your own advice dumbshit. This argument has been settled a million fucking times with peoole shoving everything short of their dicks in an AK receiver and it still shooting.

The crying shame is that the M-14 is the MBR we always wanted, but some dickhead thought the "basic loadout" was too heavy.

Considered and rejected purely on aesthetics, but I may revisit if PTR is too much of a headache.

I have an Remington 870, Sig P250 (9mm), and and S&P sport15 with a few gadgets that I like. I'm a simple man; I like tools that work and look good cleaned and stored.

The M14K is lighter.

I never said it was a lot, but it's also taking up space in my ammo cabinet

>AR10
>reliable
>shitty aluminum buffer tube bends if you barely mortar it
>receiver bends if subjected to light trauma

Nah.

Also why is everyone claiming the G3 is reliable? My PTR gets jams I didn't even know were possible and the charging handle sometimes locks itself in place so I can't even manipulate it. Is that just a PTR thing?

>Have AR during boogaloo
>Jams
>get shot

post your ccw

It's worth noting the "basic loadout" for the M-14 included 180 rounds of ammunition for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who's ever seen a rigged competition.

Military history tells us that the G3 is reliable. As the initial Inquisitor, I am very interested to hear about PTR shortfalls.

FWIW, the ar10 is a good option for me in terms of similarity of storage (mags, ammo, etc.), but I inherently trust weapons black people use IF, and only if, they get them from whites.

The point, for me, is that A) I want a larger caliber rifle than a .223 so my son understands that with good range/stopping power comes heavier kick and weight and B) I trust 7.62 to be more utilitarian than 5.56/.223.

>jams
Probably extractor or extractor spring or both. If you can move the extractor more than barely than the spring is toasted. Also check your mags too, some of those cheap surplus is deeply rusted inside
>charging handle locks
Check bolt gap and charging handle gap. My PTR used to have similar issue that is caused by excessively wear charging handle and it's gone after I slap an aftermarket one on.
Did you get your rifle recently?

My PTRs handle was incredibly stiff. Initially I had to use my leg to charge it, eventually could use my hand but ended up with a bone bruise on my index finger. Eventually the handle seemed to break in and operated decently. Not an armlet either.

The jams are why I sold it. It was flipping casings around 180° and refeeding them. I'd end up with fucked up double feeds with the casing and a new round. It was ridiculous. Some required stripping the rifle to clear because the metal was so warped and stuck in there. This didn't seem to be a break in issue. 5-600 rounds later it was still doing it. PTR refused to fix it, so it's someone else's problem now.

>flipping casings around 180° and refeeding them
Pretty sure it's the extraction spring. But you already sold it so it's someone else's problem now. PTR seems have some QC issues with their recent batch of 91s. Not the Century tier flaw but still annoying. They fixed mine without asking any question tho.

While this is a shitty post, the buffer tube is a weak point, particularly with AR-15 carbines.

Like this? Once I stopped using the #17 locking piece I got for attempting (and failing due to dimples starting) to suppress I haven't had a single malfunction.
