Finnfag active reservist here. It was EBIN. I got to pick my uh task? Mos? Man I don't know but I did anti-tank shit and went on a .50cal machine gun course. Tons of shooting, interesting and less interesting new people, all sorts of heavy weapons, got pushed to my limits and a bit above, lots of camping and other outdoors activities, like what's not to love? Well a lot but still the fun times outweighed the bad. No hazing or bullying either. 5/5 all in all.

in the US conscription is just complusory enlistment via the draft. we have not had a draft in 50 year, basically vietnam. most small nations with compulsory enlistment are normally not much more than an American police officer in terms of fighting ability.

Getting general wilderness survival training, self-defense training, weapon training, first-aid training, vehicle training, team leader training ... etc, all for free, together with a small daily pay + free meals, housing, clothing, healthcare and transportation, is actually pretty based.
Getting to blow up shit with arsenal you will never ever get to own or even hold in civvies makes it all worth while. Not to mention fatsos tend to get fit, introverted NEETs may acquire socializing skills, and in general kids mature the fuck up during the months.

It depend of your job. If you're in the infantry or any other combat units bootcamp and your service in general can be pretty harsh. If you're a cook or in a medical or logistic unit you'll have time to chill and drink beers.

Not that we don't drink alcohol in the infantry. In fact we drink a fucking lot and we have the reputation of being those who drink the most in the entire military. But in the morning you have to be in field and do your do your shit correctly with or without hangover.
Fun story. At the end of bootcamp we started to smuggle alcohol in the barracks and hide the empty bottles in the bottom of garbage cans. But one day MPs checked our barracks and found all the evidences. They searched the entire building and confiscated all the remaining alcohol. Then started to do breath test almost every morning.
