no it's trash

Just got a marlin 1895 and God dam is 45-70 a hoot. It's damned expensive though. Luckily I have a progressive press. I just casted s bunch of 540gr bullets that I plan to load to 1550 fps

Every one likes .45-70 because they're all size queens that want to LARP as Buffalo hunters even though there are better and more practical rounds.

I, too, hate fun

SHALL

nice one

Yep. I like that it's a relatively low pressure straight wall case that accepts black powder. It is futureproof.

Attached: rifle.jpg (2003x3000, 615K)

What happens if you load 45 gov to the brim with modern powder?

depends on the powder. trail boss is a modern smokeless powder and it'll be fine loaded to capacity as long as the bullet doesn't crush the cheerios.

but yeah bug bad detonation is possible

Probably wouldn't be able to seat a bullet. If you did manage to do it it would depend on the powder used. Something like IMR4895 would probably be fine. Something like Lil' Gun would be a literal bomb.

Are we Big bore postin?

I can reload it for around 50¢

I once owned a Ruger no. 1 in .450 Nitro. That's basically like a .45-70 case, only longer. A max power (according to handloading book spec) load of IMR4895 would not fill the case but it was fairly close. Given that I'd say you're right that a 45-70 full of it wouldn't be too dangerous, unless you were talking about a literal antique.

And as for fast powders? Yeah, that's a kaboom.

let me clarify that.
the 4895 load would fill most of the case volume, after that normally filled by the bullet was accounted for. I am estimating that to be roughly the volume of a full to the brim 45-70.

.45-70 is cool. You can load it down for deer or load it up with fancy projectiles like fast moving lehigh penetrators and kill literally anything that walks the earth. It can and has been used for large African game.

Fuck off bison nigger

I thought it was Chris Pratt from Jurassic world

How's that thing shoot?

What the fuck else will you get .45-70 performance out of you sperg?

Honestly if you dont smile after shooting a .45-70, you're just an open moist towelette packet that's been sitting out for 5 minutes

The price tag of ammo kills it for me, my BFR is essentially wrapping a $10 bill around the cylinder, and thats the cheap fuddloads.

Reload. A cheap single stage press, some dies, and a powder measure can be bought for next to nothing. Even if you don't cast your own, a big ass bag of gas checked hardcast bullets are like $20.

Bubba, when are you playing your mass shooting?

Attached: 6e6cdf5fd7a0593b619aec52eaef4686.jpg (415x604, 52K)

It would be impossible to carry out a mass shooting with .45-70

>find large thick crowd
>use hardcast
>shoot into crowd

If your 45-70 holds 6 rounds, and each round goes through a MINIMUM of three people. That's 18 people killed or injured. Definitely a mass shooting. Use your imagination user.

Pls stop lewding my raifu.

Stop misusing shall. You're gonna ruin it.

Point is, not impossible, my discord tranny dilating friend.

Hm? Those woods and that terrain remind me of home. Could be, but most likely from nearly anywhere in the Nordic countries.
Hit or miss?

Attached: 021.png (747x697, 367K)

There is no firearm chambered in .45-70 that exists that is fast enough to be used in a mass shooting

You'll be shot back at or tackled by the time you get off two, maybe three shots, and god help you when you have to reload

she's German. it's probably Germany.

I wonder what some 120gr Lehigh Xtreme Defenders would max out at. I bet you could chuck one up in a lathe and core out a spot for some tungsten welding rod and make some AP 3200 fps rounds that would make some nasty wounds on soft targets.

.30-06 will kill anything in North America that a .45-70 will without it costing a jillion cents a round and only being restricted to levergats

You could make some fucked up rounds for 45 raptor because the feed ramp is an insert in the magazine and you wouldn't have to worry about it fucking up your barrel or chamber.

This thread makes my Iron become the Big Iron.

>and only being restricted to levergats
uh, .45-70 is not a strictly levergun cartridge, silly

And .308 will do it even cheaper

Attached: prettysurethatsahook.jpg (480x360, 34K)

yes, but its not 45-70 so whats the point?

Fucking cuckold.

I love it. It let's me LARP as a rough rider. Unfortunately it's expensive AF
>inb4 reload
Can't currently. Had to move for a job. Living in an apartment for the next 2 years until I move back

>not living the levergat life
This is like arguing at with someone who buys the shit in the back of a Ross. You just will never understand

There's some small and simple kits I think, you don't need to set up a whole bench with tools bolted onto it.
It's a big and straightwalled case so it would be very easy to start out with.

Attached: handloading like a pro.jpg (2304x3072, 1.15M)

1870 disagrees. So does Phoenix

I can get leverevolution for under 1.50 a pop and .45-70 in a bolt action, lever, breech, falling or rolling block and auto. Same as the 06. The BLR has an awful trigger, 95s may as well not exist and the long ranger is nice, but it's no 1886 or 1895

Side note, .45-70 brass lasts forever

This image makes me wonder why they don't have .38sp in a striker fire

it's called 9mm user

>Side note, .45-70 brass lasts forever
this is one of the major reasons I chose the platform. necked down spitzers are for troops who have a supply chain backed by superpower governments. a Jow Forumsowboy in 2050 can only depend on himself and his tools.

Do the world a favor and shoot a 38 round out of a glock

On that note, 458 Socom performs about like a moderate 45-70.
It’s brass also lasts basically forever. It’s fun to shoot

PLS NO BULY

They're fucking comparable is what he's saying.

Second this. .48 cents a round. 405gn cast with 3031 on sale.

Aside from several longer lever actions that hold 7+ shots, the Gatling can and has fucked crowds up.

my Speer reloading says that a compressed load of AA 2015 will push a 400 grain bullet 2018 feet per second out of a rifle with a strong action like a Ruger No. 1 or No. 3, Modern production Browning model 1885s, or a properly converted M98 Mauser

Attached: IMG_20190810_161217.jpg (4048x3036, 3.04M)

>low pressure
.45-70 sucks, not fast enough to kill

ABSOLUTELY disgusting and disgusted

It's the only good kind of government.

I reload with lee shit on a lee stand. At worst its like 3x3 not account for a small space for powder and whatever. Stop being a bitch.

How's the .45-70 revolver? Can it wreck deer out of a handgun, or is big iron just a meme?

Attached: gatling.gif (400x225, 3.92M)

>t. Never fired a 45-70
This guys is right Plus, the whole getting tackled thing is a meme. People have been conditioned now to run screaming from the sound of motorcycles back firing. Unless you happen upon an undercover cop who actually has some balls, you might even get a reload or two in there.

>t. Never fired a 45-70
This guys is right Plus, the whole getting tackled thing is a meme. People have been conditioned now to run screaming from the sound of motorcycles back firing. >Can it wreck deer out of a handgun
There's a lot of handguns that can wreck a deer, they weight less than people do.

>get shot with a 400 grain bullet
>bounces off
Nothing personnel, kid

They can, but just a six inch .357 Magnum with a good hollowpoint will wreck a deer.
Or a 1911 with a long barrel and a nice hollowpoint of its own (handgun hunting is generally happening at close ranges).

You'd kind of be wasting your load with most .45-70 Gov't ammo in those revolvers, since the cartridge is made for longer barrels (of course, you do get a crackin' good kaboom with each shot, and a fireball to match, which is why they're so fun), a .44 Magnum revolver could give you somewhat similar result with far less blast and noise, and a far lighter gun.

If you want a Big Iron, and you want to get the most mileage out of your hand artillery, calibers like .454 Casull, .460 S&W Magnum, .480 Ruger, and .500 Linnebaugh would be some good ones. Of course, this would atomize deer, I'd be looking for bigger animals to shoot.
For calibers like these, there's ones in DA/SA revolvers, but a lot of them have some particularly hefty recoil, and I really can't see myself ever putting the DA to good use trying to stay on target in rapid fire or something, might as well get the sexy looks and the stronger frame of a SA revolver.

No shit? May have to look into getting something else from them

I really wanna get myself a marlin 1895 sbl and have it threaded for a suppressor. I like 45-70 but it’s expensive and not common, kinda want to get 357 magnum or 44 magnum but that’s not 45-70. I’d get both but I’m not rich.

Do you reload? It's expensive to start but with 45-70 you make it back quick. Of course, that depends on how much you actually shoot

I have a Gibbs/Navy arms enfield conversion. I want to start handloading for it, How stupidly hot can i load these?

375 H&H does everything 45-70 does, for 500 accurate yards longer...

400gr bullets can't pierce body armor, too slow and heavy to expand too

They're 2/3 the weight of a 12ga slug and far more accurate. It doesn't have to go through to knock someone down.

You're not supposed to fight the army with it, you daft cunt

What sort of body armor are you talking about? IV?

>.45-70
>injured
No they're dead, my dude

Imagine thinking that speed alone determines how deadly something is

Have you seen the armor piercing loads for .45-70?

If it was a mauser action or a singleshot tank I'd say as hot as you can make it, I'd be careful with hot loads out of an Enfield action

Speed is all that matters, body armor is a thing dude

Imagine wanting to kill someone instead of incapacitate them to use later for forced labor, also ap .45-70 exists, bud
