I'm thinking once you gotgud at the speaking and at telling jokes in that context, you could move into telling jokes as the centrepiece.
I'm not a comedian OR a public speaker. I am someone who knows that speaking is hard and that comedy is harder. Even Aristotle (who invented all this shit) didn't quite figure comedy out
