My IQ is actually 78, or rather an average of 78 after three non-meme tests, and being aware that I am this stupid has been a fucking nightmare. You're probably wondering how I'm writing this if I'm at retard tier IQ. Well, I wasn't always this way. I wish I was because I think I'd be happier if I never knew the difference. Let me explain: In 2014 I had a traumatic brain injury, and while I've recovered a huge amount since my accident, this is probably as good as it's going to get. I've got no idea what my IQ was prior to the accident (I'd never had it tested), but it was at least high enough that I was about to finish a bachelor's degree in EE. I'd just locked down my first job. Then, out of the blue, life comes to fuck you -- on the night I went out to celebrate, a drunk driver T-boned our car.
I can still write pretty well, if I'm given enough time to do it (I first posted this in a different thread, but wanted to tell my story in a place it wouldn't get buried. It took me about 35 minutes to write). But my problem solving, spatial reasoning, and mathematical aptitude are now shit, and I'll never work in engineering. In fact, working in any job may not really be possible. My girlfriend left me after what was a "polite" amount of time, I've got $25K of student loans hanging over my head, and at 27 I'm living in my parents' basement probably until they die. I want to die. I can't even play most modern video games competently (again, problem solving/spatial reasoning deficit). But I'm too much of a coward to an hero. I don't want a pity party, although I know it probably seems that way. But I do want you robots to take the time to be appreciative for what you have, as even the easy pleasures like video games can be taken away from you by the cruel bitch of life.

Right, so something I should probably point out (it was pointed out to me by the psychologist I saw for therapy) is that IQ probably isn't an accurate measure of intelligence for me. I think quicker and more clearly than I can act if that makes sense. Like, with typing the problem isn't coming up with words, but translating it in to keystrokes or deciding where punctuation should go.

nursefag checking in. I work in an adult physical rehabilitation facility, and OPs problems are pretty common for people with a TBI or stroke. Keep in mind that IQ material skews heavy toward stuff like processing patterns and spatial reasoning, and is also timed. If you cant do that stuff well, it doesn't matter how capable you otherwise are, you'll still get a brainlet score.

You can't not practice abstract logic, and when IQ scores are inherently fluid and constantly shifting, depending on age, educational level, emotional and physical states. The only way of obtaining anything close to a conclusive result would be to continually take them, which would inevitably improve your ability to discern and deconstruct abstract patterns which IQ tests heavily rely on.
Again, why does everyone seem to think it's perfectly normal that the only institute that pays any credence to IQ is specifically engaged in rewarding members for having a high IQ? Why, if it was such a dominant aspect of our personalities and aptitude, are we not tested and provided opportunities based on our IQ score? It might be because there's a conspiracy against smart people, or it could just be because it's self-congratulatory bullshit.

I don't necessarily disagree with you because a test that measures something should work out of the box and shouldn't need very special circumstances. It's like trying to measure temperature but saying that the measuring process only works when you measure the temperature of boiling water. I don't think that IQ tests have nothing to say, because there is correlation between having a high IQ and being successful, but they're very sketchy at best.

I also should add that I had an accident years ago were I lost consciousness and hit my head on the ground (quite some blood too). The scar is still visible when I cut away my hair. I'm pretty sure this played a great part in my intellectual degradation.

It should be noted that correlation doesn't equal causation. There is a much stronger correlation between being raised in a wealthy family and success than simply IQ, so there is a lot to argue on environmental factors that could contribute to someone's ability to get a high IQ score.
