Only in absolute terms. Where I am currently, including state and federal taxes, middle class pays 50% tax while 1% only pays 25%. Not to mention that 1m takehome isn't exactly comparable to 10k takehome even beyond the fraction aspect.

The only thing taxes are needed for is to finance the military of a nation, the justice system and the police. Everything else is bullshit. We don't need welfare and the government provided "services" like education and healthcare are just the process of creating an unfair monopoly for providing those, running the private providers out of the market and then making the people think they are actually doing them a service because if government's monopolies weren't there, they couldn't get these services in any other way.

That, and water, electricity, parks, maintenance (like the recent craze of putting bike paths everywhere), regulation (e.g. preventing the price of housing being 40x higher relative to salary than it used to be .............), and more.
An example of tax dollars going to good use: the mayor of the village my grandmother lives in changed the water system to be unique in the country, resulting in significantly cleaner water with less fucked up products poured in at the cost of more heavy salts. In a word, that's exactly what tax dollars are supposed to go to.
