Stop comparing men to women, it's stupid. Of course they are received differently. Shyness is a soft trait and thus better associated with femininity than masculinity. Cute in women and children, not necessarily in men.
Once again, attractiveness prevails. Shy men can be approached by women if they're handsome, their shyness can become charming and awaken a girl's nurturing instincts (women enjoy having a measure of power in a relationship). Can't be a complete pussy though, you'll bomb it.

Yes and Yes I did, tried going to the Gym for half a year but people mocked me for it and generally it wasn't a fun place.
