if you live in europe learn english, then german, then enough russian that you know basic phrases and sentences, then latin and with that last one you'll be able to easily pick up french and Italian

This, it's not worth leaning any second language anymore if you speak English. Google Pixel Buds already do real time translation, and the technology is only getting better and better. You should invest in a different skill instead.

If you want to learn Spanish, then go for it. You'd probably have a better chance of being committed to learning it if you actually like it. There's no point in learning a language if you can't stay committed until you reach decent level of fluency. Spanish should be one of the easier languages to learn according to the infographic.

Their translation quality is way too low for anything but basics. Actually learning a new language is not going to become obsolete in our lifetimes.

Learning languages is fucking useless if you aren't going to use it. Learning a language to talk to your grandparents or because you're moving to another country is fine, learning it because "lel it's good! keeps your brain fit!" is pointless.
How many successful people do you know who know superfluous languages? Do Elon Musk, Trump, Bill Gates, Richard Branson know other languages? Learn a useful skill like math/programming

This is why I started learning. Also its helped my confidence a little by forcing me to listen to the way I speak so I learn to speak clearer and more confidently in general. Also immersing yourself in something completely is a respite from navel gazing and crushing depression.

Spanish imo is a very utilitarian language in the way it's constructed: most verbs are regular and share suffixes, word order and sentence structure is restrictive (except in literature, and even then it's not as free as English or Japanese). All in all it sounds very dry. Personally I can't enjoy Spanish literature, but I'm not much of a litfag so make of that what you will. Add to that the fact that most native speakers can't write correctly, and even forum browsing will lead to anger and frustration at other people's incompetence.
A good thing about knowing Spanish is it lets you understand other romance languages at a basic level (especially Portuguese and Catalan). I assume this is also true for other romance languages but I don't know from experience. Note that this applies less so to French, because it's considerably different to Spanish. This shouldn't be a problem since French is fucking gay and there's no reason to ever speak with a frenchie.
I'm mostly taking about standard Spanish. Dialects will obviously be more varied and fun, but require learning enough of the standard dialect to understand them.

NY here. Not if schools still do this but in mine we were forced to learn one romance language. It would have made the most sense to learn Spanish, considering there's regions of the US that primarily speak Spanish. I chose French, like a weirdo though. It has not been of any use.

Latin, German, French, Russian are the languages of culture. Spanish is only good for El hidalgo ingenioso but that has had enough scholorship and love to make its translations superb in every way.

Latin is completely useless unless you want to specialize in ancient literature. Even Esperanto has more speakers.

Especially true for Japanese for example. You cannot understand the culture without understanding the language.
