Quite a few shitstorms come out of r9k regularly. Shuaiby's suicide, the tranny blackmail harem, constant real life threats, etc... I think a lot of people are reluctant because they see this as their home and don't want to uproot. 8 is also not the most pleasing looking site and it can be pretty slow.
I've been trying to make people aware of a plan to move, but I think they're set in their ways or are not optimistic. I'll still do it regardless even if I'm the only one.

People are fairly spoilt by the fast-paced nature of Jow Forums. Going back to a slower, less normalfag-infested site can be pretty jarring; plus, coming here is just a habit. Sucks to not be around when huge happenings occur as well, you just don't see that shit happen on 8, least not as far as I know.
