I agree. Around the 2012-13 mark, I also noticed the transformation of the word "meme". A meme was typically something that lasted for years, like "do it for the lulz" "longcat" the ORLY owl, etc. Once normies got hold of the internet, anything humorous was considered a meme. "Hey, check out this meme i just created!" That's not how memes worked. They took time to be accepted by a larger audience. They also lasted way longer than this 1 meme a week bullshit.
