Why did I feel the need to dress like my favorite pro athlete? I guess it's because I had no real identity of my own at that age. I saw a quote a few years ago on the blog of Dyske Suematsu that really hit home: "People with no identities of their own must consume the identities of other people." That's a very interesting point. The very people who would rather die than be labeled a racist are the most likely people to thumb their nose at so called "white trash."
