What does alcohol taste like? I know that it smells like shit from growing up in old apartments but how does it taste? Not that I'm going to be looking for any

The cheap shit tastes how it smells but more expensive stuff has a nicer taste to it, it takes getting used to though.

Alcohol itself is somewhat bitter, alcoholic drinks vary depending on what it is made of

It tastes fucking terrible but the feeling of being drunk outweighs how bad the taste is.

so the more expensive drinks would taste less shitty?

but there has to me a general taste to them right? I mean everything has a particular taste to it. Like honey or strawberries

Not really, the only thing they have in common is the burning sensation in your mouth and throat alcohol gives, though strong spirits tend to taste the same because the alcohol is so overwhelming there

Pure alcohol tastes like, just go taste a bit of rubbing alcohol.

But different hard liquors taste different, for example rum is a bit sweet and gin has a more dry, sharp taste.

>but the feeling of being drunk outweighs how bad the taste is
but what about the feeling that you guys get after drinking it? the hangover.

wouldn't it go like this?
the hangover feels terrible, and It tastes fucking terrible but the feeling of being drunk outweighs how bad the taste is.

If it tastes shitty and I feel shitty after I drink it. Why would I enjoy it for the few moments of being drugged.

no, because they add flavouring and stuff, or they get the flavour of where the sugars came from.
the only common thing between them is the throat burning, and that varies from drink to drink.

this, normies talking about how they prefer such and such type of alcohol are literally just the emperor's new clothes

Because for those few hours you forget how shitty life is.

Buy some, drink it, then you'll know. Yay science.

>the burning sensation in your mouth and throat alcohol gives
Maybe some people just weren't meant to drink alcohol. I don't think I was meant to drink it.

Attached: 0f21edb4.jpg (480x480, 55K)

just buy some beer
fuckin hell

you don't get drunk enough to have a hangover.
also you drink stuff that tastes good, like cocktails or liqueurs.

that's basically a chemical isn't it? How did it even get so popular?

seenot that fucking hard to figure out

There are less damaging ways to engage in 'escapism'. There's anime, music, vr, f*pping, dancing. It also seems like most people are addicted to it.

yeah alcohol is just some chemical that happens to get you feeling pretty fuckin good for a little while

i wish i was one of those brave souls who distilled alcohol for the first time and got plastered

> Not that I'm going to be looking for any
I just asked out of curiosity. I'm a virgin too but I don't ask about that cause it's embarrassing af

>It seems like most people are addicted to it
Thats because they are

Because alcoholic beverages were the only thing that was universally safe to drink before the discovery of proper water sanitation, and because it makes you feel good

If you don't get absolutely assblasted and pass out, and drink a liter of water before going to bed you don't really get a hangover. Low end vodka and tequila tastes like ass, but you're throwing it down real quick, so it hardly even matters, and if that's what you're drinking, your aim is to get real drunk anyways. Beer and wines are more of an acquired taste, and you really come to appreciate it if you pay some thought to it. A lot of cocktails are just plain delicious, no matter what you think of alcohol itself.

No, strong alcohol does that to pretty much everyone. Some people just care about it less or have gotten used to it. Strong alcohol straight is something you drink to get drunk ASAP, not for its taste. In that sense it's pragmatic, not a "good experience" when going down

I get drunk on the hopes that I get that 10 second feeling of pure euphoria. It's the only time I ever feel truly happy, and it doesn't happen every time I drink. So I keep drinking and drinking until it happens.

>because it makes you feel good
I get the same feeling from drinking flavored sparkling water and sprite then. What's the difference between alcohol and other drugs? Cause ,it's sounding more and more like a drug to me

Hahahahaha it's tastes like what will lead to getting ur pussy eaten out dick sucking one night stands & a fuckathon marathon.oh not to mention divorce, affair, rape & STDS! Oh Jobless too!! Still interested in taking the risk curious 1??

it's basically a drug
it alters your consciousness. sprite doesn't really do that, aside from giving you a sugar rush. sprite and other pop is addicting to some people like alcohol is for others.

Not sure. When it's in a drink like beer the flavor is masked by other bullshit (I think) but straight up alcohol/vodka doesn't have much of a taste beyond burning.

Alcohol is an intoxicant, like tobacco. There's a difference that and "drug" drugs. Flavored sparkling water has a taste, alcohol actually affects your nervous system, so your senses feel different depending on how drunk you are.

>I get the same feeling from drinking flavored sparkling water and sprite then
No you don't you faggot, unless your brain reacts to HFCS the same way a normal person's brain reacts to ethanol, in which case you should leave your body to science to be studied
>What's the difference between alcohol and other drugs?
That it has been part of our culture since forever

Not basicly literally a drug

To me it tastes bitter and unpleasant. Doesn't matter what I drink - everything from Chateauneuf du Pape to whiskey has the same kind of taste. The only difference is the intensity and the way it hits my tongue. On the one hand I save money and it's good for my health, on the other hand I'm kind of missing out.

well.. yeah ok fair enough.

The thing is, the more you drink and think about the flavour, the different you perceive it to be. Just like, well, anything. At first it all tastes pretty much the same: Beer tastes like beer, vodka tastes like vodka, wine tastes like wine. If you pay it some thought and do comparisons, you can easily find differences and your personal preferences, from general profiles up to the smallest details.

>for a little while
Well OP, here. Alcohol as described by you user's
>Alcohol itself is somewhat bitter
>It tastes fucking terrible
>they have in common is the burning sensation in your mouth and throat
>Because for those few hours you forget how shitty life is
>I get drunk on the hopes that I get that 10 second feeling of pure euphoria
> [They have to] add flavoring and stuff

How can people drink this stuff 3-4 times a week if it's this bad? The only redeeming quality, as described by (you) is a short feeling of "pure euphoria" and that's followed by a painful feeling of pain.

Attached: 28c9b80359f2e9eb.jpg (259x295, 12K)

If you just start out drinking it you won't like it. You need to overcome the initial "bad" taste to get at the flavours. If you drink too much you're just hurting yourself.

Once you're old enough try some, be somewhat open-minded, don't ever drink too much when with company, and if you really don't like it don't force yourself.

No, you're cherrypicking only the bad parts. As has been said, it's an acquired taste, like different kinds of cheese and olives. Certain cocktails are delicious, no matter what you think about alcohol itself. The "flavourings" that "have to be added" are not something artificial, it's about how and what from you have created the alcohol from.

it's not rational. i know i shouldn't drink as much as i do, but i still do. you become dependent on it. why do people do heroin if they know it's bad for them? it causes a physical dependency. you don't think about the consequences. i'm drinking right now. i've been drinking since 2. i'm going to regret it tomorrow but i don't really care.

Because stuff like wine and beer and spirits actually tastes good and alcohol is a necessary part of their taste. People that drink alcohol exclusively to get intoxicated are called alcoholics and are usually considered on the same level as other drug addicts by society at large

Most people just got used to it because they started drinking as a teenager. It's an acquired taste.
If you have an ounce of self control you won't get a hangover. Also I fucking love the taste of alcohol now. like any acquired taste it wasn't great at first but now I really enjoy the taste. If you're the type of person who can't drink tea or coffee without gallons of sugar don't bother.

Beer and lagers and all that other shit just tastes bitter on top of bitter.

Wine and hard liquors just tastes like burning for the most part.

Alcohol all tastes like shit and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you and to themselves. No one is drinking like alcohol-free whisky. There's a reason why everything is a mixed drink with orange juice or cola or whatever. The only people drinking straight liquor are either hardcore alcoholics or trying to be classy if they have it with ice.

I like alcohol, because it makes me relaxed, and also drunk, and also black-out passed out, depending on how much I drink.

>ow can people drink this stuff 3-4 times a week if it's this bad? The only redeeming quality, as described by (you) is a short feeling of "pure euphoria" and that's followed by a painful feeling of pain.

Same reason why you and other people spend like 8-16 hours a day on Jow Forums and playing video games. because it relieves some of the pain and anxiety from their shitty lives haha

I'm not saying everyone should drink, but why are manchildren so bitter about people enjoying alcohol? I feel like most of these threads are created by people who already have preconceived notions about drinking and just want to "prove" that their position is superior.

>No one is drinking like alcohol-free whisky
Because it's part of the taste

>There's a reason why everything is a mixed drink with orange juice or cola or whatever. The only people drinking straight liquor are either hardcore alcoholics or trying to be classy if they have it with ice.
Untrue. Believe it or not people actually like the taste of things you don't

it tastes fucking awful, you need to be really miserable to drink it straight

OP was genuinely curious and politely asking about the taste of alcohol.

but to answer your question, it's because they're gay retards who associate alcohol with "normies"

Alcohol can be an acquired taste and certain drinks might taste better to you than others. For example, I think beer is disgusting, but I can drink cider no problem and it tastes great. Straight vodka shots make my body convulse, but mix it with cranberry juice and it's suddenly pleasant.

>Alcohol all tastes like shit and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you and to themselves
Just because you are a tasteless alcoholic that loves getting drunk on horrid cheap alcohol, it doesn't mean that everyone else is

>OP was genuinely curious and politely asking about the taste of alcohol.
Yeah but these threads always turn into the OP listing the negatives of alcohol and then saying "why would anyone ever drink it".

>Because it's part of the taste

Yeah and I'm sure a company could somehow synthesize the taste of alcohol without actually getting you drunk, and then they would immediately go out of business because no one would buy that shit.

>like the taste

nah it's like coffee or tobacco or even weed, we want that buzz or high or upper or whatever that comes with the substance, the taste is something that's "acquired"

Buddy you're projecting hard. Either you're an alcoholic or underage, but people like the taste of all those things. There's a reason people buy expensive liquor and it's not just because they want to waste money.

This is a hard projection and factually untrue. I'd never drink straight vodka for the taste, but I've had alcohol free beer upon multiple occasions. If I find a good alcohol free beer, I'll pick that up for sure, but I'm not going to drink a bad one, just like how I'm not going to drink bad beer.

So it depends on how much you drink? but the more you drink the more happier you are? but you can't be happy if you don't drink more? but if you drink more you will have a hangover.
but the only way you can be happy is if you drink more

No alcho sounds icky! real icky

It's a drug and it messes up your body. I don't think it's for me. I don't think I was meant to taste it

No, the more you drink, the more drunk you get. You don't get happy by drinking, your current emotions are just "amplified" a bit. If you're unhappy, you will be miserable. If you're happy, you'll be extatic. But you also feel a sort of numbness at the same time, the "real world" becomes slightly fuzzy and more difficult to interact with. The if you get drunk enough, the world starts spinning and standing is difficult. If you drink less, you just get slightly more relaxed than while sober. Again, you're just cherrypicking the bad sides. Drinking is not binary 1/0 on off good bad. It's more than that.

>There's a reason people buy expensive liquor

They feel it's classy

>but I've had alcohol free beer upon multiple occasions. If I find a good alcohol free beer, I'll pick that up for sure, but I'm not going to drink a bad one, just like how I'm not going to drink bad beer.

MM THAT ICE-COLD REFRESHING TASTE OF BITTER WATER

I don't drink beer because it's refreshing. as has been said on multiple occasion, it's an acquired tase. An apt comparison would be saying "MMMMMM THAT DELICIOUS SPOILT MILK" about cheese.

It's an acquired taste, it just tastes like alcohol. Once you drink enough of it you'll more or less get used to it. The only liquor I've yet to get used to is tequila, but that's because it's from a different source than regular drinking alcohol.

>you need to be really miserable to drink it straight
I mean it sounds like something you'd have to be forced to enjoy for fucks sake.

It tastes like relief

Attached: 1524028787982.jpg (841x898, 188K)

>Same reason why you and other people spend like 8-16 hours a day on Jow Forums and playing video games. because it relieves some of the pain and anxiety from their shitty lives haha
That was my point. why alcohol when there are much less harmful ways of "escapism"?

>They feel it's classy
Alright you're just underage. It's okay you'll grow up someday.

Tastes like shit until the pain is numbed

Attached: 1kinni.jpg (600x596, 150K)

Once again, you're just cherrypicking the bad sides. Stop masking moralfagging as an innocent question.

This. These threads always go the same way and the OP is always just looking for a soapbox to preach from.

One of the main benefits of alcohol for me is that it makes social situations less painful. I don't freeze up when talking to people if I'm drunk.

I have tasted all alcohol types and wine, and not cheap stuff either. By far hard liquor is the hardest to drink straight. Depending on the quality the strong disgusting flavor hits you harder, it does NOT taste like it smells. Smells better than it tastes. I can see why "shots" exist, because if you sipped it from a cup you'd fucking punch yourself in the balls. Alcohol is not worth drinking compared to a glass of orange juice. Beer doesn't taste any special, it's weaker and usually has a flavour thanks to the company. Tastes like bad soda, and if you buy flavored shit it tastes like slightly bad soda. If you drink wine it tastes worse than bitter green grapes but is drinkable, sippable.

ANY hard liquor though, fucking impalpable. If you're drinking it and not mixing it, you're either miserable, an alcoholic or trying to be a badass. People probably drink alcohol because it's basically legal drugs in liquid form. They know if they drink to much they'll do dumb shit they will regret or not want to take responsibility for so they can say "blame it on the alcohol doe xd'

If you are a special snowflake who actually likes the taste, good for you, but by all means it's shit. Wine reduction sauces are delicious, but drinking alcohol lmao.

Yeah. Disaronno is really good, as is some of the more expensive whiskeys.

>you become dependent on it.
>it causes a physical dependency
>i'm [it] drinking right now
So all those kids in college parties and adults in bars are just a bunch of people that want to escape their problems? And they do so by damaging their livers and increasing carcinogens in their bodies, having to look and feel old young? So alcohol is the biggest form of escapism then?

Then alcohol is.... dare I say it? / The drug society has deemed acceptable/ ? Everyone is in on it and won't admit how bad it is for you.

Attached: pfqeouw.jpg (1200x800, 113K)

If you're Asian or Native American, you might not have an alcohol tolerance.

>Tastes like shit until the pain is numbed
>666
hmmmm

>If you are a special snowflake who actually likes the taste
It's not at all uncommon for people to like the taste. People who don't like it have this weird mentality that everyone else is just pretending.

yup thats it. stay away from it. It taste like piss and shit

Alcohols are typically developed from a lot of living ingredients, which allows for a lot of depth of flavor.

Alcohol gets you drunk.

Alcohol keeps things shelf-stable for longer.

like other anons have said
alcohol tastes like shit, in all forms
I hate the taste of beer but I drink it every night
one other user said it, it tastes like relief
I drink beer as fast as I can every night; quicker you drink the faster the effect comes on, once the effect is there you can't taste the beer anymore, goes down like water.
by about the 4th beer I start to feel queasy, that's how I know I'm almost there.
I always know that if I power through the puke feeling and keep drinking; ill come out the other side and be all set
then before I really know it, my 12 pack is gone and I go to sleep, since i only buy 12 at a time to limit myself
wake up every morning at 5:30am and begin my workday.
rinse and repeat.
at least I have the opiate of the masses.

I actually enjoy the burning sensation, and the warmth inside that follows.

I guess it's kinda like with hot peppers, once you get used to the heat, you start noticing the flavours that hide beneath it, and you actually enjoy the heat as well.

it all tastes like shit don't drink robots its really bad for you and being drunk isn't actually fun everyone just pretends it is
