It may not have any meaning, but life still has objectives and a storyline you're better off following. Like if you only played GTA to run around killing people and stealing cars. Sure it's fun for a minute, but it gets boring and you end up having more fun if you play the missions.

Because they took the sandbox out of the original sandbox. Gone are the days where you could pick up a heavy branch and bash people's skulls in for fun, or lead raids on the agricultural plebs to take their shit. Instead, we get to work for pieces of paper that represent a fraction of a shiny rock so we can trade those for food and housing.
Which would be all well and good if there was some other aspect of goal in mind. For example, there was once an objective to get spices so our food didn't taste bland, because we needed some sort of stimulation. Eventually some dipshit miscalculated the circumference of the planet and tried to sail west to get to the spices, and instead he found a new place. And then later, the new place had an objective to expand further west.
So perhaps if we were actively trying to make space colonies instead of sitting with our thumbs up our asses and letting third world shitskins destroy thousands of years of progress in under two decades, maybe life wouldn't feel like such shit, because it is shit.
