I think the internet is better than it's ever been.

No more 640x480 RMVB porn.

No more pirated games that take 2 days to download and don't work because the crack is corrupt.

No more questionable Moldovan websites to watch classic Simpsons episodes.

Nothing about the internet has gotten worse. There are shitty sites, but the key is to just use the ones that are good.

>Nothing about the internet has gotten worse.
The fact that everyone uses the same 5 sites and not much else is a travesty. I miss back when there was a separate forum for everything.

Is this not still true? There's specific boards for Sega Master System fans, metal-detecting enthusiasts, and so on. What specific thing are you looking for that exists on one of the massive social networks, but not on its own dedicated forum?

I liked the internet back in 2008 when I had an internet gf

2010
Wrong. First post worst post.

I'd say early 2005 was when I felt it die. 1998-2004 was my favourite time, great fps multiplayer games, retards didn't yet know how to use the net efficiently and there were a lot of great forums and so on, and everything wasn't indexed by google. Plus, internet was still slow enough that you had to be dedicated to use the net, retards lost interest quickly because they weren't spoonfed everything.

Social media wasn't a big thing yet either so you could actually "hide" online without encountering people you knew all day.

I went online to escape the real world, fast forwards two decades and I'm more likely to run into people I know personally while I'm ONLINE than I am irl.

Everywhere you go now while online you're getting bombarded with reality. Facebook, twitter, instagram etc. Socail media crammed down your face at every turn. There's no level of anonymity to anything anymore and it fucking sucks.

Funny how attitudes changed so fast. 20 years ago back on dial up the golden rule was NEVER tell people your real name/address online, and people thought you were weirdo if you used the Internet for anything more than email.

Now if you don't have a dozen different social media accounts with your life story plastered everywhere and if you DONT use the net regularly, you're a weirdo.

Fuckin normies ruining everything man

The 2016 election ruined everything.

Probably somewhere around 2009

Internet relationships are a meme you idiot

2006 , the porn was better , less of the windoze crowd

>2010
Yup. But it was already falling apart at that point.
Any time after that going online was just a habit. I miss early to mid 2000s internet.

2012 was the last year it was tolerable. 2007 was probably the peak

This

The internet was getting pretty shitty before then but now it's absolutely unbearable

2008 was pre good my dude

its where my mind dropped off aswell

bu but the memes of donald cheeto guy trump were great though

It peaked in 2006, then it went gradually downhill from there. The last "good" year was probably 2010.

Probably 2009, when I had a rotating selection of pages and blogs I regularly viewed. 2009 was also when Geocities shut down, heralding an end of an era of small niche websites. The worst thing about the modern Internet is the death of small websites, often a source of quirky one-of-a-kind information.

That's why I said 2010 was the last year I really enjoyed the internet, you fucking idiot.

For me it was 2009.

But that's because that was the year that my mind really began spiraling deep down into a pit of paranoia, anxiety, depression, bitterness, and psychosis.
