I had maybe 4 of the smaller round ones in different colors as a kid. Then I saw The Mask of Light movie and was disappointed to see that they were the bad guys and didn't even really talk or anything.
I loved putting them together and taking them apart.

I think I had all the 1st generation ones. I think I liked the black one the best, since he had pretty cool claws for hands. I disliked the brown one the most, since he had reversed torso, which I've found kind of dumb.
Still won't beat lego sets, these were my favourites by far.

sorted all my legos/technic elements out and sold them recently for about 25 dollars. It was a nice trip down memory lane to see all the old pieces and remembering what sets they came from, and then at the end they went to make some other kid happy

Holy shit dude, thank you so much for posting this. I fucking loved Bionicles all throughout my childhood and that commercial always got me hyped as fuck. I completely forgot about it until now, and watching that gave me crazy nostalgia and rock hard fuckin goosebumps. Holy shit I miss my childhood. Everything sucks now. The thing that impresses me about Bionicle looking back at it as an adult is the autistic level of lore and worldbuilding Lego put into developing a fucking toy line. That kind of dedication in children's entertainment is seldom seen outside of big video game franchises and book series'.
