Recent studies in Denmark show protein absorbs is worse in fat free food.
Whole eggs showed 10-20% greater anabolism when comparing whole eggs with egg whites with overal calories equaled. So the egg whites had more protein, but synthesised 10-20% less than the whole eggs which had less protein and more fat.
Same results with Full fat milk and skim milk. They believe the cholesterol amplifies the effecttive dose of each gram compared to protein with no cholesterol.
They believe there are also other things in fat that cause the effectiveness of each gram of protein to be more effective.

They're useful if you're vegetarian/vegan and aren't getting complete amino acids from your food or for whatever reason want to eat less meat. They will be more effective when mixed with whole milk. Protein supplements are merely a tool but people tend to overdo their protein intake. Keep in mind the body turns excess protein into glucose so consuming too much is doing more harm than good.
