My uni tried to make a support group for men. There is currently a queer support group and a women's support group.

It was announced as strictly a mental health group. Was outright blocked. Multiple women basically screeched about how it was sexist. The uni said that since it wasn't inclusive of all genders it was therefore against policy. We were told by random students that if we needed mental health help we should go an see a therapist, despite the fact that therapists are expensive. We were forced to make it an fb group with absolutely no affiliation to the uni. Multiple white knights "infiltrated" out group (dunno why they called it that; it was open to literally everybody who wanted to talk, including women who wanted to be involved) and added some really horrible people who then bullied people for being part of a "toxic masculine hate group". The uni's student newspaper allowed a "guest writer" (read; random dude who submitted an article to them) to publish outright lies; sexist comments taken from randoms on fb who weren't part of the group, and claimed they were normal convos we had. When we complained we were brushed off being told "that's journalism". I had to threaten to take my complaint higher, and mentioned ethics of journalism to make them accept it as a real complaint; nothing ever came of it, and the article was never actually commented on again by them in regards to the lies. People believed all sorts of bullshit about what happened in regards to the group despite there being a tonne of screenshots showing how the conversations actually went down. Although more complaints were submitted to the uni, generally the people in the group were already suffering from depression and anxiety and decided to just drop it.
