It's actually really sad, but not in the way people think.

These are still suburban, affluent young adults from affluent families who go to great schools and get streamlined into even better colleges. The fact that the shooting happened was a tragedy, but David Hogg and his protesting contemporaries don't have anything meaningful to add to American political discourse. They're pretty much just going out and repeating cringe platitudes like "Guns kill people, and I am beyond criticism because I am a victim of a school shooting here." While simultaneously trying to assert that he is mature enough for American political discourse, he simultaneously is sheltered from real political criticism because he's only a high school student.

The really sad part is that he's being used. His ideas aren't original, and left-wing groups are profiteering off of his adolescent ego cashing in as if he's some hero for "standing up" or anything else he's doing.

What David Hogg does takes absolutely no bravery, because every step he takes is greeted with orgiastic applause and overwhelming support for basically everybody he has contact with. Sure, the neckbeards on Jow Forums don't like him, but what does he care? As evidenced by this thread, they're more inclined to sympathize with the shooter because most of the people are such delusional misfires that they think not looking at porn everyday is an accomplishment you need a support group for.

I want to ask a few quick questions. If "bullying" is the reason school shootings happen, I want to know:

1. Why has "bullying" existed since the dawn of time, access to firearms has been around since the technology existed, but school shootings suddenly start happening in the 90s with some of the most restrictive eras of firearms technology and accessibility?

2. Columbine happens (which is usually used as a counter example because Eric mentions bullying once). If the shooting is over bullying, why did Eric and Dylan explicitly say they would kill people who had nothing to do with the shooting? Why did they kill students they didn't even know or talk to?

3. Is ostracizing someone the same as bullying them? Some kids are objectively not well integrated, and it's not a fault of other children if they don't associate with that person. I knew kids in high school that were in and out of trouble, had committed violent crimes or crimes against animals, and they were generally not people you wanted to associate with. Does that make me a bully? I don't like David Hogg or this other person with the shaved head, but I don't think the fact they refused to pal around with overgrown Francis Cauldhame makes them bullies.
