What is /fast/?
Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.

WHY SHOULD I FAST?
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3946160/

Weight loss
Better skin
Autophagy

WHAT IS AUTOPHAGY?
It's when your body takes apart useless, shitty cells. (Cancer cells, cells with broken protein, acne, loose skin, etc)

FASTING FUCKS TUMOR GROWTH
youtube.com/watch?v=LGafhm1cuSI

HOW DO I SAFELY FAST?
take around 4700 mg of potassium per day max
2000 up to 3000 mg of sodium per day max
MIX THIS INTO AT LEAST A LITER OF WATER, sip it through the day. This will keep you hydrated.

HERES WHY YOU ARENT ACTUALLY HUNGRY IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 8% BODYFAT
youtube.com/watch?v=dFT2IKmwyfg

WHAT SHOULD MY FASTING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
If you're lean, 5:2!-- OMAD (one meal a day, 1-2 hour eating window) 5 days a week + 48 hour fast a week
If you're a fatass, FAST UNTIL YOU AREN'T.

WONT I GO INTO STARVATION MODE AND DIE?!
You don't have the willpower to fast to death. Now look down. See that large bulbous gut? That's food. Thousands and thousands of calories stored and ready to be consumed by your body.

WONT I LOSE MUSCLE?
This is the coolest part about fasting. Your body remains very anabolic when you fast.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5064803/
"Our results suggest that a fasting program in conjunction with resistance training can decrease fat mass, and maintain muscle mass in resistance-trained males."

60 hour dry fast complete. Contrary to popular belief it doesn't make you die. Ice cold coconut water is also very refreshing.

Hi /fast/
I want to do a 21 days water fast with snake juice.
What is stopping me ?
Each time i fail at day 2-3

Attached: f a t c a t t o.jpg (567x437, 35K)

Well done. Currently on hour 207 (8 days, 15 hours) of my 36 day fast. Hope I can make it too.

>What is stopping me ?

I don't know. What is stopping you? Why do fail at day 2-3? Because I can think of no earthly reason...

I alway find an excuse
"Why bother, in x day i got to go at x even anyway.."

Is literaly stopping giving a fuck the only solution so i can focus on my fast ?
Even if it mean that i won't go out and probably fuck up some relationship ?

>36 day fast
lmao how fucking fat are you

>tfw doing IF and can't start my eating period for another 3 hours

I WANT FOOD RIGHT FUCKING NOW

Attached: 1372209112875.png (360x269, 99K)

so why is coffee bad on a fast? what does spiking cortisol even fucking mean?

It will dehydrate you faster

Cortisol is stress hormone. Because coffee elevates heart rate that means cortisol is being produced, which has a negative impact on your testosterone production. Coffee also unbalances your gut flora due to its acidity.

If I lift heavy 3x a week, would the optimal fasting program be to OMAD Keto on all non-training days and do IF on the training days?

86 hours in right now, breaking it tonight in about 4 hours. Was gonna eat last night, made dinner all up and everything but decided to forgo and just put it in the fridge for today. Keep going boys. We got this.

Cortisol is a stress hormone released by the adrenal gland that is good for providing a jolt of energy at the expense of proper blood glucose regulation, inflammation, blood pressure, immune response, etc. It's naturally higher in the morning when you first wake up, then goes down, but drinking coffee spikes it.
Of course most studies show that drinking coffee/tea provides a shitload of benefits as well, so like everything else in nutrition science there's a boatload of contradictory studies backing every different argument, so just find what works for you.

If you like coffee and drinking it will make it easier for you to fast, mentally, than drink coffee.

Reminder that Jow Forums is autist heavy and people will focus on .01% "most optimal " details instead of the big picture.

so drink more water, not a big deal

It won't raise the heart rate enough to cause an issue unless you're having in-excess of 4 cups a day. Not to mention being a fucking incredible hunger suppressant and even relaxing if you like the taste.

these two have the idea

Do something.

Play a game, watch a movie, clean your room

Nice man. I’ve had a couple of those moments and they really are powerful.

>not eating will fuck my relationships up wahh
>cried the fatty
if your relationships can't survive your friends not being okay with fasting then get better friends/girlfriends

I always think about this when I look at the front page of Jow Forums and also when seeing so many questions in these threads.
There are so many tiny, tiny details that people fight over.
A lot of people would really benefit mentally from just relaxing a bit and doing things in a way that they enjoy rather than chasing the most marginal of gains in everything.

p sure u can do keto all week

never gonna make it

about to go to work so it won' be a problem. It'll be a tough two weeks since I'm transitioning from a 3150 cal bulk to my 1850 cal cut. Appetite will take some time to bring down.

Looking forward to speedy loss though, IF worked wonders for me last year.

then break the fast at that given event???

>lmao how fucking fat are you
It's not how fat I am so much as how low a weight target I am trying to reach. My revised aim is a BMI of 18.5, which is at the bottom of the "Healthy" range on the BMI matrix, just above "Underweight".

That's a lot of weight to shift from my currently "Overweight" just under the "Obese" limit.

Even with 36 days of fasting, that will only get me to about 148 pounds. It will take me another few weeks to get down to 122 pound which is my ultimate target.

I might look like skeletor though when I finally reach that far.

Anecdotal evidence time: I was drinking 6 cups a day when i was a wagecuck to function and my digestion was poor, with my stools frequently being bad. Didn't connect the dots to what was wrong until I quit my job and started dialing it back to 2 cups a day at which point the problem corrected itself. Since then I've quit drinking coffee all together and my sleep quality drastically improved. I started waking up with more energy and started remembering dreams, which I haven't done in years. Caffeine stays in your body for a long time and likely is affecting sleep quality. I never had trouble falling asleep but I feel more refreshed after the same night's sleep since kicking the habit.

There are workout benefits to caffeine, however, I won't deny that, but in my case the negatives outweighed the positives.

>fasting
>not hungry
>stomach constantly making weird noises

Looking for a little help here

I'm a little nervous, I've lost a bunch of weight doing keto but I've always just mostly ate protein with a bit of fat (macros might look like 20%fat 70%protein 10%carbs) Never made sense to me to eat lots of fat when I'm already fat

Now that I'm nearing my goal weight, will this approach still be viable or will I need to up my fats? Any help would be good

>122 pounds target weight
I hope you're a manlet because that's basically anorexic at my height.

Yeah no shit you were drinking 6 cups a day dumbass. If you can't handle caffeine well, avoid it. But having it a few times throughout the day shouldn't hurt the usual worker. Of course listen to your body first and foremost, but most people I know have no issues with a few cups of coffee a day.

There's definitely a genetic component to it, I've been off coffee for years because it messed up my sleep and raised my blood pressure. Finally did a genetic test (forwarded 23&Me data to Promethease) and got genetic confirmation that caffeine is no good for me.

>Was gonna eat last night, made dinner all up and everything but decided to forgo and just put it in the fridge for today

Well done that man. I found it easier just to empty the larder and the fridge/freezer completely and turn the fucker off. That way, if I want to eat I have to either go out and shop or get a take away. It's not guaranteed, but it's a good incentive.

Attached: Fasting - 2. The Fridge is empty.jpg (3120x4160, 1.19M)

>I hope you're a manlet because that's basically anorexic at my height.

I'm 5'8" and it's probably anorexia at my height as well, but for me it is a good bottoming out point from which to start LeanGains to move upwards.

It makes sense to me anyway.

Anyone cutting their snake juice with more water? I'm blending it 50/50, it's just way too much salt and potassium for me in his formulation.

Is this snake juice recipe legit? Also, are there fast-safe multivitamins I can take to get my nutrients? This isn't covered in the OP.

>bitch you jumped from #165 to #168
Nope. The last thread should have been #167, so this is quite correctly #168.

>I'm a retard, it was supposed to be #167.

I got out of a week long (post cheat day) stall on my weight loss by doing a 24 hour dry fast, and have finally lost some of my water weight, but clearly not all of it.

if I want to continue losing water weight, do I really just not drink anything? I haven't drank anything so far on day 2, and have a headache and feel like shit.

Btw so I was 269 before Easter, are like shit on Easter, fasted the next day, but still remained 275 until I dropped to 271 on Sunday, and was 267 this morning.

eat 1g salt, 500mg magnesium (pills)

and dissolve 1.5g of potassium into a cup of hot water

you will be able to fast for a few more days before needing to do this again

>dietary fats are the same as body fat
Fucking retard

I only have NoSalt and pink salt right now, will either of those work?

Also, would a cup of water every day generally be good? I currently walk 7 miles a day total over walking to my college, using the treadmill at my gym class, and walking back to my place.

I read this but not sure how relevant your post is?

What is the purpose here?
What are you trying to achieve?
How does this trigger the loss of additional water weight?

I'm not asking sarcastically. I've been fucked over by problems with water retention previously (like my 4 days without weight shifting when I was in the middle of my regular 165 hour fast) and would desperately love to know.

those are exactly what you need! i would go for 1.5L since you are active and sweating.

if you want do drink more water, go for 2.5L, 2g salt, 3g potassium.

magnesium shouldn't exceed 500mg per day and its optional. 300 pills are like 5 bucks

basically i've been able to do 72 hour dry fasts strung together with one wet day where i replace salts as described

i'm not sure what you aren't quite grasping? basically salts in my opinion are the key to avoiding literally all problems while fasting, and dissolving them into the correct amount of water will cure water retention problems (snake juice is too much in my opinion)

setting the bar too high

I like to imagine the gurgles are gas bubbles created after your stomach has finished its part in digestion and is now working on healing and waste disposal.

Like a million tiny workers fixing up their equipment after it was being used for many hours. They are putting in some long hours sure, but this is the reserve team. For people who don’t fast often they are really used to being lazy and when they have to start work they are slow at getting to it, but if you get them on a regular schedule they become more proficient at their jobs and get the work done faster with less mistakes.

Yeah that’s what I like to imagine is happening.

So I'm guessing then a regular plastic bottle of water, and a tablespoon of each salt will work

I would suggest 1/2tsp of each salt to start (not tbsp)

and dont heat the water up in the plastic!! lol

no dont do it it's actually a potion that'll turn you into a snake

it's too much salt anyway, the recipe is better halved

no, then you'll turn into half a snake!

eating some steak tartare lads

Attached: sv3.jpg (1280x720, 31K)

post body

(((nutrition science)))

This. 3 day fasts are better than nothing. Working up from them by adding another 24 hours each time is ideal if you fail early on.

Oh man it’s been way too long since I had that.
I’ve also tried horse tatare which was very delicious, but horse meat is hard to come by where I live.
I think I’ll suggest to my brother that we make steak tatare when we eat together this weekend.

can you explain more? I know I'm retarded

good laugh

Oh shit, I thought it was 1 tablespoon of each.

Based. Even better!

I'm totally new to this myself, so I'm not sure if that's a good recipe.

I accidentally put in a tablespoon (about 4 teaspoons) of salt into a liter of water. I've finished about 3/4ths of it. Should I finish it or just drink regular water for the rest of the day?
I'm only 17 hours into my first fast so I feel fine right now.
I'm picking up nosalt tonight

Stop and you dont even need that shit on the first day dude.

You don’t need a single grain of salt the first 24 hours and probably not the next 24-48 hours either.

you're fine, you don't need any more salt or water for the day

1/2tsp sodium
3/4tsp potassium
1.2L water (hot)

you can do each one separately in 600ml water too btw

too many people have been getting the squirts on higher doses, and too many people overhydrate during this diet (headaches and muscle soreness result)

Thanks! Am I able to drink normal water throughout the day as well, or do I just make more snake juice if I'm thirsty?

General question: do you need to break a fast with carbs if you follow strict keto before the fast to begin with? I've been doing IF and keto for over a year but I always see everyone breaking their fasts with coconut water etc. Not like that's drinking a soda or whatever but I'm just curious about it. If it's just to get electrolytes back why not break your dry fast with snake juice?

I agree with and Snake Juice is critical, but you don't need it for your first fast. Better to deal with the issues like breaking your carb addiction which is hard enough.

Worry about electrolytes when you've broken through the hunger / ketosis barriers (i.e. you no longer feel hungry)

you can but if you start to notice muscle cramps or headaches, salt up ASAP

if you are dry fasting and want to stay in ketosis, drink snake juice then resume

if you are snake juice fasting and want to eat, anything is fine unless you've been going longer than a week. you'll want to refeed on semi solid food to be safe

I use either ACV and baking soda or just very slowly start to drink water.

>you can but if you start to notice muscle cramps or headaches, salt up ASAP
Thank you! This makes everything so much simpler. What about vitamins? Am I in danger of being deficient? Which ones can/should I take?

i take magnesium and if you fast longer than 1 month i would consider vitamin c lol

you can take a multi with or without magnesium 100% RDA depending on what you feel like doing

i just pop one every once in a while and i had no problems

No.

>if you fast longer than 1 month consider vitamin c lol
Why would he need that if he is not raising blood glucose?

pro-tip: he doesn't.

Excellent, thank you!

Snake juice recipe? Is that the only thing I need to consume during a fast to prevent malnutrition?
I'm new to this. I'll be doing omad.. currently about 14% bf

Attached: Attach21113_20180402_103547.jpg (1195x1593, 331K)

this have been mentioned one million times already

youtube.com/channel/UC_yUeH8TsG5pxqvkOxBtsFA

For anyone reading this. This is totally wrong, in fact the opposite happens

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18458357

what's the difference between fasting than eating 500 calories a day? I mean you'd still get the benefits of fasting wouldn't you? just a slower rate

Insulin levels

>50% increase in cortisol
>for marginal increase in test
>at almost gram of caffeine

I knpw it's a bad question man sorry
I'm just starting
Is there nothing additional I need to supplement? Like vitamins or bcaa

Also... Is that the guy responsible for this method ? Does he not practice what he preaches? I don't know why I would take diet advice from a fat guy

bcaa is a total scam

vitamins can have its use, but for most people starting out fasts arent needed, just keep good varied micronutritient dense diet on eating days.

>does he not practice what he preaces
if only you knew how bad things truly are

this guy is actually a madman, mad scientist

I feel great doing the snake diet, but even with 8 hours of sleep and feeling great in the morning, my eyes look so fucking tired. Anyone else like this? What can I do to make myself not look like a dead zombie?

Halfway through day two and just finished an hour and half workout with weights and a little running.

Feeling great. Keto strip was light pink so in just starting ketosis. Little fatigue bit focus is great. A few cravings but nothing near ravenous.

Fearing day three because it's the toughest.

Attached: 1523298537923.png (574x1507, 282K)

Day 3 of fast. How do I make the hunger stop?

Attached: 1522811048568.png (763x758, 920K)

It's not true hunger if you're a fatty
Alternatively, use mental gymnastics to turn the bad into good: think of it as your body burning fat whenever the hunger seeps in, and you'll feel better about it

Hope posting this so much doesn't make me a faggot. Just want to show that this actually works when you stick with it

Attached: OMEGALUL.jpg (1990x3438, 1.12M)

I'm halfway through day two as well. Last meal was Sunday night.
I'm feeling weak, but the hunger isn't any worse than yesterday. Looking forward to tomorrow being over.

I only feel bad mentally when I think about food. I feel good when I think about other things. I'm hoping this will train me to love food a little less.

Boogie to Zyzz. Never stop posting this dude, it's absolutely phenomenal, and it's what we need here in /fast/ to keep going.

Good job my dude. How tall are you? Also was this snake dieting?

Crazy results, great work.

5'10. Goal is 180 so I'm right around the corner but I think I'll still be fat then so it might need to be updated to 170. Never been that low.
I did IF 20/4 for the beginning, 3 months or so. Then started foing 24hrs and 48hrs. Didn't find out about snekman until about a month ago. Doing dry fasts to try and help the loose skin once a week.

Man I am fuckin PSYCHED to lose weight like this. Look at that arm on the bottom left picture. You had that muscle hiding under all that fuckin fat, and I know I've got muscle definition hiding under my blubber too.

I can't fuckin wait to lose that fat

I know this seems out of left field, but I want to talk sexual health for a moment here. I suspect I have some form of ED, not porn induced. It's not anxiety or poor blood flow, so I'm attributing it to me just being a fucking fatass.

Did you ever have any erection or dick or sex issues when you were really fat? And did you notice something like dick gains or strong or more frequent erections when you lost all that fat?

Alright you fucks - Progress picks for the crabs to feast on.

I don't have a good "before" because fat fucks don't like getting their photo taken. Still here goes, it's the best before close to my peak weight of 116 KG / 256 pounds / 18.3 stone which I hit mid-November 2017 and this photo was taken on the 28th November 2017.

Attached: Fasting - Me from 28th November 2017.jpg (254x695, 53K)

no I never had a problem like that, but I also do not fap at all and never have. I have noticed a slight 1inch increase for myself. And my erections are more frequent and seems harder then they were so take that for what it's worth

This is me from an hour ago. Total weight loss at this point is 28.1 KG / 62 pounds / 4.4 stone.

Still a long way to go though.

Attached: Fasting - Me from 10th April 2018 - Front.jpg (1080x1920, 529K)

Glad my waist shrank down to 40" so that I could wear my pre-9/11 jeans again. They've been folded at the back of the wardrobe since then as I grew too fat to wear them. My waist peaked at around 48".
