How do people go to work everyday for 40-50 years and then just die at the end of it all with nothing to show for it?

How do people go to work everyday for 40-50 years and then just die at the end of it all with nothing to show for it?

Is there something my head is missing that let's me be brainwashed to go through that? Because I would let myself be brainwashed in an instant just to be content with how shit life really is.

I don't think they're content, but they don't want to starve.

There is nothing missing in your head, there is something missing in theirs.

People aren't long-term thinkers. Something like half of everyone lives paycheck-to-paycheck and couldn't come up with a thousand bucks for an emergency.

It's sad. Don't be like that. Be like Mr. Earl

I always think intelligence is key. I would say I'm pretty intelligent, and sometimes I walk through my city and see retards, chavs, the working class scum and I sometimes wish I was like them.

They're literally deluded. Why do you think they come up their shitty normie music and memes? It's a shitty cope mechanism that is their outlet for the stress from this. They can't think about it directly in the head or they'll probably an hero.

There's nothing wrong with either of your heads, there is something missing in the heads of the people they follow or views and beliefs which they adopt.
OP and most robots here are probably this-worldly and see no real reward in life beyond death, where a normie whos religious might differ

What do you suggest as an alternative to earning a living wage?

Society wouldn't exist without it so I couldn't say, how could anyone? Unless it's purely a society based on trades and skills, which in turn is used for favors from others with other skills etc.

Life is literally groundhog day

It's necessary so that a few minority can enjoy their lives, living not as slaves.

The curse of modernity (and therefore intelligence) is that you start to realise how pointless your pursuit of... well, anything is. The internet has made this worse. From where I am sitting, I can view, understand, and partially experience literally infinite things my ancestors had no idea even existed. A million partial experiences can be more overwhelming to your senses and brain than a hundred full experiences. Modern comforts and tools have made it so we truly have nothing to strive for except status and being even MORE comfortable, if that.

Say what you will, there's not actually that much difference in lifestyle between some guy playing video games in his bedroom and browsing Jow Forums and some rich guy attending balls and galas across the world. The brain is still releasing the same chemicals for the same inputs. Technological nihilism has ruined us.

The top % or the bottom %? They're both not slaves, but in different ways.

So true. I feel like I've won the lottery in terms of technological advancement, I was born in 85 and from that time I've seen so much change, more than the past 100 years before I was born. But you could argue the past decade hasn't seen much change, not on a large scale

It's either starting to level off, or I just nothing seems new anymore, like you said, you've already experienced it and you know what to expect now so nothing seems like a surprise anymore.

You're just not beaten down enough by life yet to accept that life is suffering. When you have kids and hit 40 or so, your brain goes on autopilot and you don't worry so much about "justice" and "dignity" and "high ideals that are unrealistic" and "needing to be spoon-fed constant excitement and passive entertainment" and "work being unfair" and crap like that. Middle aged people are exhausted from work and kids and bills and responsibilities and are happy if they get to eat a little ice cream or have a drink and watch tv after the kids are in bed before they pass out from exhaustion.

How does it work tho? People put up with this life in the past because they were raising up a legacy, a lineage, passing down family values and inheritances to a prepared family. But nowadays kids don't stick around with parents at all when they grow up, so there's no incentive that keeps people going on with that lifestyle. I feel like this doesn't work and society is unraveling because of it actually.

starting a family used to be a nice thing that gave your life purpose

What?? Kid, you fucking love your kids and want to feed and clothe and educate them, and you yourself want to not die penniless in an institution as a decrepit old person, so you go to work. By the time your kids are 21 or so, you want them to move out, so you can walk around the house naked, fuck your spouse in peace, and not have to be a slave being pleasant and making grilled cheese sandwich for your offspring/ while discussing "social injustice" and their "high ideals" every 20 seconds. (Sheesh! Is there any ice cream left in the fridge, or did the kids eat it all?)

In 33, I don't want kids.

You will never become a full adult unless you have them, though. That's the price you pay for not procreating. You will have more freedom and money without kids, but also your life will remain shallow and selfish and somewhat empty, and you'll never fully grow up or learn the answer to OP question through experience.

sociulizms

I actually agree with you, but I still don't want them, so I guess I'm going to die alone and sad.

Not everyone can be a NEET living with their parents or off the government. The vast majority of people have to work for a living, there is no other choice. You literally have to work to earn a living so you can afford rent/house, food, gas, clothes etc. The dumber or less ambitious you are, the shittier type jobs you're going to have to work. That's just the reality of life unless you get really really lucky.

and yes having children does give life some sort of value.

The problem is, do we really need to work so much as 40 hours a week bare minimum to just scrape by a living? Then including travel time and basic subsistence, that's practically our entire lives outside of vacation days.

This. We are a complex society, feeling to be a working part of this system is the reward for the wagecuck

33 isn't middle age really, nowadays. Most people don't reach maturity (to where you wouldn't ask why work is unfair and how do people do it all their lives) until about 40/45. Everyone thinks like you til they hit that stage tho, not criticising, it's normal.

Shit, where I live nobody works only 40 hours. Usually 50 - 70 just to get by

This talk needs to stop " 30 is the new x". A 33 year old person is fucking 33 years old, not a kid anymore. Please stop this excuse talk. Your time on this earth is limited, every year counts especially in your 20s. Once you hit like 25/26 years old you look around at your peers. You can easily see who did it right and who fucked up.

waging is easy, if you have hobbies (assuming you consider retard shit like videogames a hobby) , the drive to participate them dies out steadily dies over the first few years. the best course of action is to dive headfirst into your wageslaving and force it to be your hobby

It's dangerous and you can ruin your life not growing up by 25-30, but a lot of people don't. They're just that way, until life forces maturity on them, and there's not much they or anyone else could've done about it, to help them, because it's an acquired worldview that is granted through a number of factors that when added up = mostly fate.

Honestly why is life so nightmarish?

This is existence

THIS??? what the fuck, whose idea was this?

>life is suffering
>has kids to perpetuate the cycle of suffering

Real fucking genius

Accept it, for if you do not accept suffering, life will make you accept it through repeated beatings about the head. You can't avoid suffering by any means, and during your short stay on earth you will never know the author of the world except through 'his' creations.

Suffering will continue throughout the galaxy without humans. And that is an immature idea, I can't begin to explain to you... It's like, when every kid says, "I wish I were never born!" Not knowing what a gift they've been given until much later, sometimes not until death. Don't be that guy, if you can help it! *rattles chains* Booooooo! I am the ghost of Christmas Futureeeeeeee!

Completely agree. The sooner you acquire that worldview the better off in life you will be. If I had a kid I'd make them work a part time job in high school, then before I sent them off to college I would make them work for 2 years at some low tier job so they can see what the working world looks like.

>only 40
way more than that, especially once you start counting commutes

The other choice is poverty and misery, then death, and still with nothing to show for it. Working is the better option.

I have a teenage son who just started working at Subway. So excited for him to have his illusions dashed so he can start living the life and feel content with a sunny day, good food, love.

He wants to be a car mechanic. I want electrician at least. He doesn't understand that it would be nice to be rich. Thinks he's going to start a millions of dollars car restoring business on a car mechanic's salary. Gah!
