Would heavy shrugs work well too? Every time I do shrugs with a weight that really taxes my traps I feel like I'll lose my grip before I actually end up gassed out.

I’m ambi so I usually just do whittling and hatcheting outside. For ordinary people though, the rule of thumb for any exercise is if you fatigue out during it vs if you fail out during it. If you’re doing wrist curls with like 30’s and you fail out without feeling any burn, it’s not going to help. If you do rolling pins with a 5lbs plate and you feels “so hot it’s cold” burn in your forearms, then that’s working and will make you very strong.
