Sciatica nerve pain, ruins my career

I can't believe it happened to me. I am 24 y/o male in good physical shape up to yesterday. I am 1 month away from graduating from the fire academy and while we were training, our PT teacher gave me a 40lbs vest but he let if fell from his shoulder and I tried to catch it up.

Then it happened. As I was crouching down to get the vest, it started to hurt quite a lot, around the lower back/right leg region. I couldn't stand up and it took me quite a lot of time to go to some chiropractor he knew.

The guy did some of his quackery and actually made it worse for a while. The pain was manageable until I lied down in my bed and couldn't stand up this morning.

I feel like my life is cursed, I couldn't go to my 2 jobs, couldn't help my parents, couldn't help my brother, can't train, can't go pass my final exams which means I can't graduate and get a steady job.

What can I do? Will it leave permanent injuries? How long to heal?

Similar injury at gym this year. Took 2 months of physical therapy to leave "acute" stage and not be painful all the time. Still hurts but getting better. I was away from the gym for 2 weeks and went back. Worked around the injury, still doing that to some extent. I am not out of the woods yet but at least I can work out. See a physical therapist.

>injured on the job
I'd sue and never work again LMAO

Holy fucking shit 2 weeks?! I'm fucked holy shit I'm fucked. Does that mean I got herniated discs? I don't do that much heavy weight, just a shit load of conditioning. Lately, I've been working out a lot more and I've seen a video on athlean X which he says to never foam roll your glutes while crossing it with your leg because it may cause sciatic pain...

It wasn't on the job, it was at school while working out. Oh my god I'm in so much trouble fucking shit

Same guy. Yes, do NOT foam roll over flutes and especially hip bones. Quads and hamstrings and lower legs are OK to foam roll. But I am not an Internet PT, see a PT.

Fuck meant glutes.

A couple of PTs have told me to never foam roll over bony protuberances.

But is sciatic pain only because of herniated discs? Or are there other causes?

You may have a disk injury of some sort but 40 pounds I doubt it. I herniated my L5 disk a year and a half ago and only have been almost normal this month

>chiropractor

A couple of PTs have told me to never foam roll over bony protuberances.

My mum had sciatica and it goes away bruh just wait

But how long? Will it be gone by tuesday? I have my exams I can't miss. Holy shit my life is fucking ruined even if I heal up I'll be weak and can't into firefighting anymore

What kind of shit place doesn't make temporary allowances for injury? Get documentation from a doc and tell them you need to take the exam later if you cannot do it now. Also, never go to chiros, they're unlicensed discount-physios at best, harmful quacks at worst.

My fire academy. They don't give a shit about you. If I don't graduate, I'll have to wait an entire year and take start the course all over again and I'll miss the hiring period for full time firefighting. Doesn't help that my parents call me a wuss, a burden, weak cunt and how I made the worse career choice ever.

Pic related, I walk around the house with a fucking broom, I feel so pathetic. I know kinda understand my grandpa on how he felt...

Sorry to say this bro, but if you can't convince them to let you take it on a later date, you're gonna have to wait an entire year.

I know it sucks but make sure your back heals before you try something that might hurt it more.
You'll blame yourself even more if you fuck up further

What a shitty academy. You were injured during physical activity related to your training, which makes them responsible, especially as this is a type of injury that can develop over time. Talk to a doc, then talk to them, if they're not receptive it's time to introduce them to their responsibility and possible legal action. Tell your family to fuck off.

>What can I do?
You prioritize your goals and take hard pain medication to accomplish the most critical one-time tasks like finals; you go to a proper PT specializing in nerve injury and take sick leave from both jobs; then you rest and recuperate and follow your doctor's orders, everything else will have to take second place to your health and will eventually settle down. There's nothing more you can do, other than be less of a fucking gullible fuck who goes to chiropractors instead of a medical specialist.

I need to know how long has it been since the injury?

Stretch your hips, groin and legs every day. Get some ankle weights and walk for 15 - 30 min every day. Avoid sitting for long periods of time. Do pic related every day without weight at first, 3x10. Sciatica will pass, but you need to be proactive about healing. Do not be sedentary, you need to bring motion back to that area. Believe me it will pass.

When I first started lifting I shifted a disk IN ADDITION to fucking up my sciatica nerves due to improper deadlift technique. A year later I still feel the injury when I move my hips a certain way or when I am in one position for too long, but guess what? I am squatting heavy as fuck and diddlying heavy as fuck with no discomfort. From experience, I can tell you to not let that part of your body stagnate. As soon as you are able to get up and do these exercises, do so. Rehabilitate yourself.

Hip tightness is a big contributor to spinal injuries.

I know how bad it feels. Don't give up. I thought my lifting career was over until I took persistent, focused action to rehabilitate myself. The back extensions helped tremendously.

Meant to post this picture.

Fuck okay mates, I will let it heal up and try to get a medical paper justifying my injury. As I am writing to you right now, I can finally stand up without pain. It kanda cracked in my lower back. Although I can't bend, I can walk

It happened yesterday at 10am. I already had a similar pain but always lasted a micro second but now it's continuous, like if something is stuck between my spine and right hip, as if I need to pop the joint.

I'll look into it but I doubt it's my discs, I think it's my piriformis

I am aware that it is likely not your discs, but if you do the things I advise, your pain will go away. You are in an even better position to recover because of the fact that it wasn't a spinal injury.

You should always have a backup plan, especially when it comes to physical careers.

Yeah I can't explain it, when I tried to stand up, I felt a crack and almost doesn't hurt, I can fully stand straight. Maybe it's because of the curcumin supplement I took? It's night and day, I had to crawl to the toilet this morning and it was fucking gymnastics trying to shit without my back hurting

Same age, same issue. Very debilitating when you try to bend over...

I was a borderline neet from age 17 to 21. I went all in for firefighting. Although it's overrated job for 3 fucking years of study, it helped me grow and mature quite a lot. I'm going into renewable energies this fall

Dude, calm down. I don’t know much about firefighting, but if you tell them what happened, they can probably make an exception and allow you to pick up where you left off when you’re healed up.

(You) are getting good feedback in this thread. It’s almost like I’m not on Jow Forums. I responded already a couple times, but just want to say hang in there. You have to be strategic about this but the outcome can lead to better body awareness and better habits, meaning long term gains and better life. This is not the end, it’s the beginning.
